She was driving down the high way and heard a loud bang, and the car started dying...

She drives an Acura EL, and apparantly the tranny blew up on her. The shop is asking for $3000 to fix it...

What tranny works with this car? I figured it should be pretty common and I could probably source one for much chepaer than that...

Auto I'm assuming?

If 5-spd - 3000 is way overpriced... check http://www.car-part.com

See how much a used tranny is going for... then add about 6 hours labour...at b17gsr... so around 250-300 + fluids

An EL is really a Civic. Any equivalent year civic tranny would work fine.

Trans should be $300-600 used, another $300-500 for installation. $3000 is criminal. Post the name of the garage that gave that quote.

If it's a 97-00 EL automatic, these guys are local, and have several in stock for $450.

Yup, thats my place of choice, helps there just down the street, well...kind of.

Thanks for the info.

:( Too late though, she was kind of stuck and had to get the car fixed, I feel really bad that she got taken for a ride. It's a shop in embrun, trying to get the name now.

Tell her to find out 100% that they either put in a new or rebuilt tranny into her EL..

If they put a used one in and charged her $3000 she should be taking action, because that's highway robbery..
