update NA-TT swap
had time today and worked on the Supra
- GE engine out, W58 off the engine
- going to resurface flywheel, and cleaning the engine bay tomorrow if I have time
- still waiting on my TRD mounts and clutch (there is no such thing as overnight parts from Japan)
- going to continue project Monday, some ECU work, TRD lsd, and fuel pump.

How much does it cost to convert n/a - turbo?
from a financial point of view, its better to sell the NA and buy a TT... but thats no fun, my plans from the start was to buy NA (with the right options), drive her for a few years and do the swap.
I rather do the work and have some fun :D
Supra parts arent cheap (and mostly have to ship everything), you are looking at quite a bit of money. You need the basic like fuel pump, FMIC, engine mounts, exhaust etc (trust me le list goes on). It will all be worth it in the end, and its great to work on a car with no rust, clean bay, clean underbody.
Now after all of this is done, Im considering building my other 2jz with a single set-up, but thats not going to be right away, I'll have a little fun with this one first.
I'll add up all the receipts at the end and see how much it all cost me.

If you can squeeze it budget wise, you might want to consider going to a small single now. Much more space to work with in that bay, and it dumps all the factory twin related junk (ie a bazillion extra vacuum lines & pointless sequential related stuff).

I'll keep the twins for now, but yeah it would clear up some room for sure. if I have some money left, I promised my girl we would go on a trip, so I kinda want to have ~1500$ left.
I dont live in Orleans anymore, bought a place with the wife in the south/east end of town.

It's just not fare. I finally get the faster car and you make your's faster.
My Supra is a 97, and I will tell the insurance its a TT. I've spoken to lawyers about this and both of them recommended to get it appraised.
I dont think many in Ottawa/Gatineau have done this NA-TT(vv ti) swap. Its not that hard, actually is fairly easy, beside expensive parts and waitting on other people's mistakes, I would do this swap again.

And have to stop by Mike's and pick up some gear oil, made a little boo boo, need more oil.

The more I work on her the faster she will be done (obviously). For a couple of weeks I havent even touch the poor thing I was too busy. Now Im putting more time into her, the only things that hold me back are the little mods/fabrications I have to come up with and finding the parts around town. Im pretty much ready to drop her in and start the exhaust set-up. I want to get on the road before October.

See in the old days when there once was a supra, mx6 (green), mx6 (red) transformed into a Rio at one point, lebanese hatch-vic, and WRX. They used to be big shit disturbers and taking pics up on hills and get blinded by a cloud of dust that you couldn't see infront of them on a curve when they knew the car infront of them was only a couple of feet infront ahead but the fear of an unexpected visitor 500m above see level made them piss their pants.
Cruise, pics, chicks and Timmies, made memories.

What a sweet ass. I'm not far from you Fred, just on the other side of walkley, I'll definitely have to stop by soon to see this progress!
Its a 7/8 hydraulic hose, I need it for my turbo return (oil), its very easy to get a coolant hose but it needs to be oil resistant, so I found a truck (volvo) repair shop that had one in stock. 35$ and a little tour at the rigs around and I finally got my hose. Toyota told me it was in Japan, about 2 weeks ?!?! fuck that! Its better than calling the states Toyota dealerships and picking up one up in NY somewhere.
On the hose it actually says "VOLVO" right beside the "2JZ" print on the block LOL
Now that I spent all day fixing my friends car, I'm beat and getting ready for bed, no time to work on my car :(

Which tranny are you using? I tuned a mk4 supra last year with a 2JZ and single turbo conversion. Put down 580whp but kept exploding transmissions. I think this year he put about 5 trannies through it.
-Michael
no big updates, waiting sometime next week to drop her in the engine bay and connect fuel, driveshaft... I wish I had more news but I never have time to put in. Everything is ready to drop in. Cant do it this weekend, I have wedding all day sat and Sunday I have to many things to do around the house.
Im using the W58 tranny, until I explode it, then the V160. If the guy has gone through more then 2 its probably the w58, some guys in Cali ran them daily at 400whp but most cant take it more than that.
Is the guy driving standard or auto??
Tell him to get the v160 from the US, even tho its 4000$USD new, its worth the price if he is always changing tranny. OR the r154 tranny, but I dont think it bolts right up the the 2jz, not sure. I pretty sure the R154 went on the mkiii and 1jz's even then I would keep a w58 over the r154.
Tuning a 2jz single turbo isnt hard to pull off 600whp, with the right fuel pump, injectors, and a good 4" exhaust, some internal work, Ive seen Supras being pulled on 91 octane and get 675+whp and that being soft on everything using only 80% capacity of the set-up.

We will see how the famous 2jz will hold. Its not like if something blows I will miss out on good riding weather. I would have all winter to fix it.
Its official, the car will be ready Nov 23rd, seriously :P
Hopefully the roads will be good to take her out for one little spin. My dyno date is the week of the 19-23 Nov.
still a race to the finish my friend, through the scanner on the 5.0L last night, turns out something fucked up....anyways, i'll be working on that today, should be able to fire that thing up this week  8)

Fred I think I'm gonna follow in your footsteps.......... she'll be off the road and on jackstands soon... blew somethin up and dumped all my coolant... So I'm gonna use it as an excuse to start a build I think
thanks Coady... I'll give you a shout if I need help, most of the work is done, just have to put parts back on, I was hoping to get it tuned and ready sooner but there was no availability until mid/end Nov.
That sucks Dan, I saw the pics, hope you get that 300 back on the road, if not, well.. time for some fun with that Nissan

Mine is off the road aswell, really sucks.
I'll see you at the red light in May, Fred
Stu you could come too, even though you broke my heart...
In all seriousness, I pretty much blew my turbo's so red lights may be questionable for me haha. Can't wait to see the results fred. What upgrades did you do during the swap? I think I remember you saying you wanted to keep it relatively stock for now, but you must have done a few things!
My first step is done. I have 3" turbo->exhaust, 3"intake/charge pipe, fmic, hks bov, walbro 255 fuel pump, TRD lsd, TRD mounts, RPS clutch, Autronic SM4 tuned at 15lbs. I'm thinking of putting about 350-400 at the rear wheels.
Next step is bigger brakes (I will also need rims to fit the brakes), suspension, rad and fan, put some fancy gauges.
After a while I will put in a single, exhaust (maybe 4"), cams, injectors, with the v160 tranny(will also change to lower gears). Maybe add another 255, depends on how much fuel I need and what turbo I'll be running.
Might take my other 2jz and build that one up (internals and all), lose the AC and keep the bare minimum. Dont know yet, but I have some options, I also have the AUTO tranny I could use and drop everything in a sleeper car.
I also did maintenance and replaced parts that werent necessarily broken, but I would be an idiot if I didnt do it.

Sounds like it'll be pretty solid for next summer. It'll only leave you wanting more haha.
I was planning a build for this winter, internals and all, but I think I've decided to put that off one more season. This winter just some basics and cosmetics are in store. Some wheels, do some suspension work, full exhaust and up the boost a little along with some bigger brakes and better cooling especially since it decided to overheat on my last run of the season. Like I said, I need to check the condition of my turbo's, so I made replace them with something small, or even some more oems, and then next season start the build.
Post up the results next week!
That sounds like a good plan. I guess we will have to meet up next summer Dan :D
