Oy! I got a MSD Ignition MSD 6AL PN 6420 here.

It was used on a 69 Camara z28 for a while until my neighbour decides to change something in his ignition system (whatever) and he gave it to me.

He wasn't sure if it was still in a working condition.

Is there a way I can test this? I thought that'd be a fun thing to post on here.

Cheers,
simon

I bought complete MSD ignition for my old EF (Box, Coil, External coil cap) hooked it up and didn't notice a fucking thing except a LITTLE rougher idle. I had it on for 5k. Took it all off put it back to stock, my idle was smoother and I didn't feel any incease/decrease in power.

See I think if you truely can get a stronger fire at 5000k up to 7800-8000k, all it needs is gas and air! Dylan, were you running a boost setup at the time?

Anyone have something to say on if it is or not possible to test the box without installing everything on the car?

you can hook the power and switched 12v wires up to a car battery and the ground to the negative and test the unit. The white wire is a trigger wire, just touch it against the ground really fast and see if it send a signal to the coil.

If you go on msd's site theres some instructions there that will help ya out.

Worst case ship it msd, they will usually fix it for free, 6420 I sell for $255.00, so ya know :mullet:

plug in into a wall and stick the output wires to your tongue... youll feel a slight tingle if its working... just like the old 9v battery trick

If you want to test the box, you'll need a COIL to be wired up (2 wires and you can use a universal canister type coil, found on older ford cars/trucks)

-Wire up the power/grn & 12v source to the box

-Wire up the coil

-Put an wire coming out of the coil close to GROUND source

-Take the pickup wires (used to connect to the distributor) and tap them together qucikly.....this will simulate a firing condition & will tell the coil to fire.

As for the wiring instructions, http://www.msdignition.com
