Who buys parts from a store/dealer anymore?

I feel bad yet I rarely buy from any Canadian retailer anymore, for instance, the O2 sensor I need is $400 at the dealer, $300 at Canadian retailers, and $105 USD online.

I usually browse online especially eBay just to see what the difference is but I usually find the it's pretty close so I'd rather take a drive out to Nolimits and order the part and have it next day usually.

In another case like yours I had to buy another OEM remote for my car and I found a new one on eBay for 1/4 of the price.

Are the rumours about MB parts being crazy expensive compared to the avg econobox true?

Aside from the small tidbit here and there (oil filters), I will not buy things at the dealership. A factory Honda aero lip for my car is 532 + tax from the dealership. It is 265 USD + shipping in the states. The aerokit is literally twice as expensive here in Canada than in the US.

Funny this thread just came up. I'm looking for running boards for my old mans new truck... While I'm waiting for prices from No Limits I thought it would be fun to call the dealer. A set of running boards from GM - $1000

ouch

Looks like aftermarket will be $300 - $400

Yes and no.

Dealer has a crazy mark-up, its almost silly. I still use the dealer since they are fantastic at diagnosing problems, and they call me to price my own parts online since they know MB prices suck.

Almost all the sensors on my car are Bosch, so if I can cross-reference the part # I can usually find it much cheaper. Like $105 for O2 sensors is pretty good, for most cars they cost between $50-200.

I'm buying all sorts of parts from the dealer. Of course, it helps that I work there.

I had to replace a C.V. boot on my TEG, called the Acura dealership $82. The guy at the dealership told me to call UAP napa $18 tax in. I thanked the guy at Acura. I was shopping around though. Stealership's are always over pricing the goods.

The dealer wanted $408 + tax for a window motor for my G (not including install).

I bought the part off ebay and had it put in for a total of $100.

$100 vs ~$600

The exchange rate at the banks are 1.068 for selling US dollars to them. That makes ordering shit from US even a better deal then it already was.

Same for my car. Dealership wanted $1100 for a new power steering rack for the Supra, ended up finding one for $540 aftermarket.

Of course, yet being Canadian its frustrating, I'd love to buy local, yet the price difference is such that we'd be crazy not to shop across the border.
