Hey i have an ultra linear amp and the fan wont shut off when the rest of the car is off? it dosesn't take much power but after 12hrs of sitting there it will start to kill my battery. Any reasons why it could not be shutting off?

Is the amp itself turning off?
Maybe the remote lead is not turning off signal

Yeah, I'd say you probably have your remote wire connected to a continuous source, instead of a switched source. Where do you have the remote wire hooked up from?

well the rest of the amp shuts off like lights and everything and when the amp IS on the fan is faster/louder.
and its hooked up to the same power wire for my deck. So thats where i ran out of ideas. Could it be a bad ground?

Read the manual for the amp? Perhaps the fan does continue after powering-down to prevent overheating until is reaches a certain temp? Never heard of an amp partially-powering down....

when i say wont shut off i mean wont shut off...like i said it kills my battery cause its on all the time not just a lil while after use.
And i dont have the manual as i didnt buy it new.

Check where you have the remote wired hooked up, I bet it's connected to the continuous power for the head unit which is there only to provide time memory. Should be hooked up to the switched power line that comes on with accessories.

he already stated that the lights on the amp turn off with the car, some amps have idle modes to ensure that the fans wont shut off if the amp is still hot, this is likely the case and it could need programming OR the thermostat associated with the fan might be dead

I think the problem lies on how your licence plate rattles on the Trunk. The turbulence caused by the base is not only rattling the plate, its turning the fan blades as well.

clearly i was kidding lol. I managed to fix it by putting it on a switch from the power wire so now i dont have to worry about it.. thx for the help
that works... as long as you realize that youre bypassing the problem, not fixing it... expect your amp to die sooner...

expect your amp to die sooner...
why would it die sooner if it's on a switch?

... i would really like to know how the amp shutting off makes it die quicker....care to explain?
shutting off the constant power will put pressure on the interior parts... thats why its CONSTANT power and its activated by remote. so by basically disconnecting the constant power line every time you get out of the car, youre going to repeat this excess amounts of power through the internal components...

but the actual amp shuts off every time its just the fan thats messed?

What kind of amp is it?
yes, the amp is powering down, but youre not taking away its constant power source and discharging it.... same idea as to why you charge a capacitor before you hook it up.... there are capacitor banks in the amp too.... like i asked before, what ultra linear model is it?
