I'll be adding a 2nd battery in my trunk to supply my car's audio/video system. I have everything I need to do this, including an isolator relay, capacitor, wires, battery, etc..

The only thing I have a problem with is how to safely store the battery in the trunk itself. I don't have much room to play with, and the battery does need to be covered somehow and kept out of sight. I've contemplated buying a Taylor/Jegs/Moroso battery box, but they're not easily hidden as they're pretty bulky. So the last resort is making my own. Has anyone ever built a battery box from scratch? What materials were used? How was it secured to the floor? Were stems just drilled through or was it done in a different way?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I hoenstly know nothing about this, but I'm pretty sure that the box needs to be completely sealed as batteries emit fumes that can be harmful.

I would say mount it in Plexi in your spare tire well or something...

A lot of old school ones were made out of steel or aluminum.. But I could see why you'de want to stay away from something conductive. Maybe fiberglass?

It seems I can get a universal Battery tray/tie-down to bolt down to the floor that's made of plastic. I guess I could just build a box using it as a base? :? :?

If it's like this:

Then it'll be too bulky IMO. How much would you sell it for anyway?

No man it's just like the tray, and the brackets etc.... It's not bulky at all and is very light. I'll get it as soon as I am able.

Alright. Send me some pics and we'll work something out. As long as it's just the tray w/ brackets, etc.
