Whats up? So I"m debating about putting in cams in the gs-r . IT's stock minus full exhaust CAI. So now it's time to up the ante in other departments. So need some feedback in regards to cam. What people are running? Also brand's such as Skunk, block, Crower. Then is there emission issues?

For street the skunk2 are a good choice. When you do cams the best gains are realzed with tuning.

How aggressive of a cam can i run and still be streetable.

Boost it! B series block can handle enough boost no problem... and boost with V-TEC is orgasm worthy.
...or, i guess if you're just looking for cams... Skunk 2 would be my choice too...

I personally hate Skunk2. IMO, look into Crower cams/valve train.
And yes Micheal, it's that time again (next week!!)
Why do you hate Skunk2 Dan?

I don't know actually. I just have a bad vibe regarding their engine products. I've heard multiple horror stories regarding their valves trains & cams. I dunno, I'd rather spend my money on a company that ONLY does engine components vs. a company that does a little bit of everything.
But that's my opinion though. Take it or leave it.

blox
all the cams are cheap chinese shit anyways. dont waste money on brand name
go on h-t . but cams plus springs plus labour plus tbelt water pump camgears and tuning can add up quick to over 2000
it all depends what you want.youd be better of getting a b20 block imo.
Now you want horror stories get blox cams. I've had 3 sets in here so far and all the lobes were ground differently. I took the micrometer to them and the difference in lift from one end to the other was about 0.100. Each lobe got progressively bigger as you went across the cam. Got 3 replacement sets like that until the customer smartened up and bought some skunk2.
I've tuned a number of the crower and the skunk2 cams. For streetability I find the skunk2's are better because they seem to make a fatter and smoother torque band. For a maximum power race engine I would not use the skunk2's. Instead I like the Toda's but they're extremely agressive and you have to specifically select springs that won't bind plus look at rebuilding your valvetrain every year. I'm partial to supertech springs.
Most companies stage 1 cams are about all you want to run on a stock valvetrain. If you do springs and retainers then usually a stage2 is it before you start needing to bump your compression and do head work. Large overlap cams do not like low compression since the high revving honda motors do not have a lot of dwell you need a small combustion chamber volume or you end up with 1/2 your exhaust gasses staying around and they produce poor power. This means a stage 3 cam (most makes) generally needs something around 12:1CR. The GSR works a little better in this area because it has better quench.

Most of the hot-rod, pro-fwd, and SFWD honda all run skunk2 stage 1 cams now.
There is huge dyno proven power jumping for Type R cams to stage 1 skunk2's with big boost setups.

Keep in mind sam this is going on a N/A set up or at least for now. But its nice ot see that even with a boosted set up some cams work nicely.
