i was just wondering how to get my engine sparkling clean and looking new again. Do i have to do the old fashioned scrub scrub way because every time i do that it still looks like the hoses are dirty and not half as clean i'd like it to be because of all the cracks and crevasse's , or is there a quick way to do this thats cheap and effective?

cover your alternator with a plastic bag, air filter if exposed, and any other possible open breathers etc. use a good degreaser while following the instructions the degreaser carefully. let soak for 30 seconds or whatever is recommended.
Now spray the engine off(use a pressure washer if you're careful), making sure to avoid the covered alt. dry. Now clean any spots that are not satisfactory.
Then use a dressing such as 303 protectant. That stuff works great.

I cringe everytime I hear about someone washing they're engine with a pressure washer!
If it was me I'd grab a 12 pack, some rags and toothbrush, degreaser/cleaner and just go take my time and do it all by hand.
