Need an opinion on this amp....

It's in the power range of what I'm looking for, and I'm no competition guy and don't listen to bass heavy music at full volume all the time - I listen mainly to 'normal' music at normal levels, I just love the low end that subs give you. Mind you, yes, I do love cranking it up once and awhile and showing it off.

I've never really liked those "cheaper" type amps and Sony seems to be somewhat of an entry level brand, but what does everyone think about that amp? Any experience with Sony amps?

sony is crap.

there are only a few amps that they have made that have some decent SQ
the problems with sony i found was

amp gets too hot (so does alpine tho)
the gain's always seem to rise the volts but dont have much to show for it.
and besides sony amps procude very low RMS and most of the time BS rms at that

lets compare with mtx

sony 1200watt peak
mtx 1200watt peak

sony 300rms
mtx 500rms

yet sony never shows the rms for that same reason


plus sonys are known to blow up on you never hapend to me but i heard its common.


If u want a cheap amp that does the same power u r looking for in that amp.. find ureself a sony amp for the year 2004-5ish i dont remember the model but it has a few X's in the model number and the amp is black and red but unlike other black and red amps that had Xplode on it this one has it written in black. it was the best sony amp ever made

thats one of the select amps that sony did a decent job with, i would give it an
A- for SQ
A for power per dollar
B+ for longevity and
B for tunability

And yeah my thoughts were that Sony was crap in general (thats always what I've said when I see the overpriced pieces of crap in walmart and zellers), but I just wanted a second opinion on them. Nice to hear this one I was looking at wasn't total crap from 4sc, but, yeah I still don't have a great feeling about it.
