speaker sizing confusion - help !

Ok , I have an 85 impala. this thing doesnt have any rear speakers, but it has some speaker holes ( seen from trunk) . There are no mounting holes tho. I will drill them.

The hole is 4.5 x 7.5 - the question is how are the oval speakers measured ? - from mounting hole to mounting hole? if so I may need a 4x7 speaker if it has 4 mounting holes ( holes in the corners of the oval - if that makes sence for you.

4x7 speakers are rare. there are also oval speakers with mounting holes at the tips of the oval. and on all the web sites that sell audio by vehicle make and model tell me that I need a 6x9 - theres no way.

By the sounds of it you don't want to do any cutting eh? That'd probably be the easiest...

or perhaps some 4" round speakers.

I'm not sure about the exact method of measuring speakers but the advertised size is usually pretty close to the size of the hole...and as you said... 4x7's are rare.
