View Full Version : Oil Catch Cans - Mounting Options?

As some of you may or may not know, my engine bay is about as tight as an 80yr old nun's cooch. Therefore, I have limited options as to where to mount an oil catch can. The only spot I could fathom a mounting point is near one of my headlights (where the cruise control hardware used to be). Would it matter if the catch-can is mounted flat instead of standing up-right? Or do the mechanics of the catch-can require gravity to bring the oil deposits to the bottom to bring back out?

Any useful input would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Some catch can's can be mounted vertical or horizontal.

Example: http://www.roadraceengineering.com/inst ... tchcan.htm (http://www.roadraceengineering.com/instructions/greddycatchcan.htm)

That's the exact can I was looking at. I've received mixed statements if it were possible to mount horizontally, but clearly it can as the mounting bolts are there.

Thanks!

My friend is building a catch right now, he is going to mount it just infront of the overflow coolant jug.

cardboaard mock up...camera phone pic

simple box shape, will have 3 -10 lines coming in, internally baffled, track use only.

Man....... An 80 year old nuns cunt would be looser then a 45-50 year olds. Don't ask me how I know

GL with the catch can! Relocate to the interior beside the shifter, easy access style!

Yeah, Oil + Interior = Problems waiting to happen.

I've picked up a catch can from MFactory. It can't be mounted horizontally like I initially wanted, but it's a really good product that actually has baffles/filter to keep air-born oil molecules out of the intake chamber.

I'll figure out a mounting option when it comes in.

take out the washer jug and find a smaller one to fit both in the same place?

The windshield washer container/pump have already been removed, same with the cruise-control equipment. I'm sure I'll figure a way of mounting the can in that area as it's currently the only free space in the engine bay.
