Hey guys really need some help. Just installed a PR3 in my 91Si. Running the stock A6 block, with a Z6 SOHC Vtec head. 60mm TB with the Z6 Intake Mani ported to match, and headers w/full 2.25 exhaust. Obviously with those mods I can use the extra fuel that a PR3 will deliver. I need to know if there is a spot on my A6 block for a knock sensor. My ecu is not chipped so I am getting code 23 (knock) and my car is running like a Topaz. Thanks for the help.

The PR3 is not a great choice for that engine combination. The B-series fuel and timing maps are significantly different from what the D series requires. To answer your question sure you can install a knock sensor on just about anything. Just get the knock sensor, wire it in then find a place where it can screw into the block. I used a GM knock sensor on several engines - just needed to make a SAE to metric adapter.

What is so bad about the fuel/timing maps for my setup? I'd just like to know what and where the differences are.

you should get hackish to tune it for you.
maybe your motor will last for the rest of the summer.
a bseries and dseries engine require different ammounts of fuel and rev and run differently.

you can put the knock sensor in one of the holes where the half-shaft would bolt up to. or alt bracket.
might need a retap.

youd be better off with a p28 with and obd1 conversion.

Frig man! Not everyone is a "hey I don't know shit or want to learn but i'm gonna slap some stuff on my engine and pump my sony system 'till i'm right awesome!" With my PM6 ecu I was running lean (big time pops on decel). Now that I have the PR3 in my 91 I have a MUCH smoother, consistently stronger pull. I never get the popping noise anymore, and believe it or not....... My gas mileage has improved!!!!!!! When i'm not revving the crap out if it, that is. Anyways I am looking into a wideband unit, and I have a Split Second piggy back (Laptop programmable, built in 2 bar map sensor).
You will more then likely get a good laugh and think i'm stupid for wanting to learn a basic tune myself. Whatever, I want to learn all I can.

Your engine should run lean on decel unless your TPS is misadjusted. Your fuel injectors turn off until 1200 rpm or so, depending on OBD version.

And pops on decel don't indicate lean anyways.

Thanks for the info. I have no idea why the popping stopped then. One question I have though is....... Since the B series fires in a different order then a D, should I swap my injector pins at the ecu? If it is firing in a different order would the injectors fire at different times as well?

The B series does not fire in a different order. Of the I4 engines the only one I can think of that fires in a different order is a VW engine and it just fires in the same order but backwards.

As for the mapping differences the b16's fuel curve puts a lot more fuel in at higher RPMs since the head/cam combination flows much better than a D-series. Even with a worked head and big cams you will find the D falls off where the B continues pulling until just past 8k. The vtec switchover is significantly different and in a different place. Even the timing is quite a bit different. The D's tend to make more torque at the bottom end - I believe it's related to the R/S ratio but haven't looked at the D-specs lately to confirm. This means on a B-ecu you're more likely to be running lean and over-advancing the timing at lower RPMs. Remember the more air/fuel in there the less timing you need.

Wow, thank you very much! Yea my D loses power big time past 7K. I did also notice the vtec felt different. I can't wait to get a wideband.......
