Yup that's a pretty good endorsement. Or how about this. I had $35k to spend on a car, I review cars therefore drive pretty much everything from shit boxes to uber luxury barges.... and I bought a Mazda3.

Interior style, fit and finish, driving enjoyment, price, practicality. All winners.

HID, climate control, 6 disc deck, heated leather, pearl white, tilt teliscopic steering wheel, ice cold a/c electric power steering etc etc . LOADED for $100 less a month then my 04 civic si 4dr. In my experience of proudly owning a 2006 Civic LX, I have to say I am becoming disappointed.

We have had problems with the rear wheels developing [what we think is] camber wear problems. The tires go out of round after only a few thousand km. We have 40,000 on it, and are on our 3rd set of rears. (They are showing the problem with less than 3000km)

We love the spaceship, err, car, but this ongoing crap is seriously affecting our pride of ownership.

If you are car shopping why not consider an 08 Lancer.

(We also own an 08 Lancer GTS which has become our DD, while the civic sits waiting for Honda to fix the possible camber issue.)

k,k,k 3 drivers, i don't to get the panties bundled up but even if there's a demand and even if they age great.. you can count 30 them in any parking lot in ottawa right now. that's alot of 3's to be traded in to dealers and alot to be privately sold.. so even if your car is in top shape and your asking a fair price it's tough to sell it when there's 1000's of them to choose from.

i didn't say the honda was rare... it's just, it's still a honda... and the 3's a ford

Regarding the fuel mileage of the 3... well it's a 2.3L engine not a 1.8 that the Civic runs. So yeah you don't get civic mileage, but you don't get civic torque either.

I've read a few people complaining about the mileage in the 3 but honestly it is excellent for the size of the engine. It's a very large 4 cyl engine, they make larger, like Nissan has the 2.5 but that's still a large 4.

I average about 8.5L/100km or so, I'm happy with that.

5- Take foot of clutch quickly

It sounds like the same problem with the camber on the rear tires. If you are behind your car looking at the rear tires do they look like are on an angle, tilted in at the top? If so, they wear excessively on the inside edge and cause a loud noise and vibration. Maybe if you're lucky your dealer will replace the tires if you bitch enough. I could only get my dealer to pay for one tire. I have 31,000 miles on my '06 and I'm almost in need of my 2nd tire purchase. I've already given up going back and forth with the dealer. Honda won't acknowledge this as a problem and they'll accept the fact that their customers have to buy tires every 20,000 miles or so. Guess it's Toyota for me next time.

And I was going to vote mazda over civic for the terrific pedal placement (heal/toe in the 3 is WAY better than most cars I've driven). That and don't they have LSD? My cousin's pulls dead straight, no wheel hop, corners like an elegant balet dancer for the weight of the vehicle... and you can play tricks on your friend by turning on their seat heaters in the summer, it's awesome!!!

But you're not in it for the sportyness, so you may as well go with a boring automatic civic and save on the insurance/gas??? The engine will last, and it will rust in 3 months, but who cares?

The gap in gas mileage between an automatic and manual transmission is minimal these days. http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/display ... leCode=M3S (http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=modelsSpecs&vehicleCode=M3S)

i test drove the civic and the 3 yesterday

The civic, the interior is wicked, i loved the way it looked inside, the back end, not great (4 dr)

but

its like the 2002 i have, i floor it, it screems, it goes no where, you dont even feel the slightest jolt. the suspention is raw, you feel the bumps. and its LOUD on the highway. its like driving a new better looking interior 2002 civic.

the mazda 3, look nice outside, Interior, very pale. i am looking at the GS sports package. Pulls more then the civic, but still weak. suspention is stiffer then a civic, but somehow its more confortable. i love the tiptronic. the seating is nice.

what i dont like about it is the interior, and the fact that its a mazda.

decisions decisions. i think my problem is that i just test drove a charger and a 300. big diffrence between that and a civic/3.

maybe ill bite the bullet and pay 5 grand more and get a camry.

It sounds to me that your looking for something reliable and nothing more. I would start my search with Toyota or Honda and work from there. I personally own Honda's and they have done me no wrong but that doesn't mean that the new gens are flawless. My advice would be to look at body styles that have been out for a couple of years. This way you can see what peoples experiences are. Buying something in a new body style year could lead to unforseen problems like the new Civics rear tire issues which you don't want.

if floored from a stop not a huge difference but overall feel around town.. nothing is slower than an automatic civic.. standard you can downshift, or keep it revving and wind it out when you have to pass.. or whatever

also whoever stated its practically the same gas use in auto to manual that's b.s.. maybe on the highway. in a civic with no torque u can save alot of gas if u drive it carefully with a 5 speed

I have a, 07 Mazda 3 GS Sport. Love it.

Owned an 03 Mazda P5. Traded it for the 3 and no warranty or any repair done in 4 years.

Owned a 1993 Mazda 626. One of the best cars I owned. 5 spd v6. Not fast but peppy and the best dam seats I ever sat in for comfort.

Also Mazda's have to have the best head lights out there of the non HID variety. All 3 cars I had were\are stooopid bright. Next car, whatever the 3 replacement is I am sure.

We looked at a Civic but took the 3 instead. With the 2.3L, lots of torque for around town. Keep your foot out of it, decent gas mileage also.
