Well it turns out that I got a scholarship that will cover a large chunk of first year so have about $1200 of spending money at the moment. There are a few things I have been looking to do for the last little while... just have been unsure as to which I should do first (lookin for help to make it easier  ) Anyways... I was looking to get headers/cat back exhaust for my 1994 Acura Integra RS but was also looking to get some rims aswell. I kinda thought about it today and figured that instead of putting the headers and everything on now I should wait for an engine swap (wanted the vtec rather than straight forward b18b sometime within next year) Should I do the swap then focus on that? or are there other affordable things in my price range to make my car much more powerful? Not looking for flamewars... just looking for some guidance due to the fact that I am new to this type of stuff. Thanks a lot,
-Matt

So your Integra is stock? If it is you should figure out what you wan to do first. Do you want a louder intake or exhaust, your Integra to handle better, experience the intensafiably insatiable pin back of VTEC, keep your stock B18B and turbo it (can be reliable), or make it look amazing and go slow as shit? There are so many options that you should take some time and figure out what will give you the most enjoyment for your 1200 bucks.

you can make a really nice turbo kit for that.
yonaka bov $100
yonaka fmic$175
yonaka pipes,couplers and tbolts$150
yonaka cast turbo manifold$150
used holset hx35 $200
walbro fuel pump $140
useddsm 440cc injectors $80
tune stock ecu with chrome by brettR $200

BAMM BOOSTED LS $1195
if you do the work yourself
10psi = 220 - 240 hp average

OR

dc sports header $400
aem cold air intake $300
catback $400-700

this equals slow ass for the same money and alot less fun

this might be the old man in me, but i would save that money u never know when u might need
specially if u dont have much money if ur car breaks down

i would say save the money and try to add more, then u can do more all at once instead of bit by bit

if i had to vote id say save it

Appreciate the opinion for sure! However, If my car breaks down, I don't really have to worry about repair costs and I myself am a man that gets tired of things very easy so always need to be spending on something  ... I see my car and I just want WAY more out of it... I have 1200 that I can spend and just really want to do something fast and affordable with maximum power gain! Once again, appreciate the opinions!

Personally, I say wait until second semester.

Who knows if you'll still have the money then....

I was having the same problem with my 2000 LS. I wanted to turbo but i cant afford it yet being it college and having to use this car as my year round DD. So i did the GSR(vtec) motor swap and so far im just lovin it! GSR's are much more fun to drive and put out some good power completely stock!

Altho it did cost me a pretty penny(much more than 1200) at least now i know i have a motor with 42,000km's, reliable as shit and a great platform to work with in the future. Altho now i have no money for any MODS (exhaust, headers, etc). All i put it on is a Cold air intake and it just screams now.

Do whatever you feel you can handle financially. Sure someone says "$1200" and your blowin off down the road with a turbo. Not necesarrily the case. You gotta pay for someone to install the turbo, you gotta buy a piggyback or standalone(hondata) unit and get it tuned right away to run properly. And then you gotta keep up with maintenance costs all year round which can be a big PITA.

Intake,Headers,High flow cat, catback exhaust will net you some nice gains across the powerband but dont expect something crazy. The GSR is still gonna roast ya

like everyone is saying 1200 goes quick, spend it wisely

Save it. You may find yourself spending a lot more on alcohol than you're used to. I spent over $2000 on beer in my first year. I didn't count on that.

Keep the $1200... You're going to school? You realize how fast you're going to be plowing through money? Girls are gonna want to go for drinks, you're going to discover the bar scene, your priorities will change.

I had my Talon when I was in college and had all these wonderful plans, then i discovered other things, more fun things. Take these two scenarios;

Spend $1200 on CAI, cat back, header -

"Sure baby, I'll take you out but I'm just going to have a water.. .I can't really afford anything else as my header is triple cremic coated with dyno proven flow results"

Keep $1200 in your bank account, leave your Integra stock.

"Sure baby, I'll take you out... Maybe after a couple drinks we can go pick up a couple of your girlfriends and drive to my place, we'll be able to talk about the orgy we're going to have because my car stock and quiet."

Think about it.

Andre uses day-to-day examples when trying to prove something. He gets his point across everytime and always keeps his head in the game.

Wheelin' biddies on campus is ALWAYS a better investment in time and money then your car, remember that.

Unless of course...your a fag, dont have any friends and cant pick up girls. Then invest in your car and some new computer hardware. :P

i agree. Keep your money. During school the last thing you want to do is mess with the reliability of a perfectly working car.

Sacrifice now, rewards latter.

Get out of school, get a good job. and then when you have all kinds of disposable income then you can go nuts.

We know its probably the most boring thing to do right now but it will be worth it later. Dont spend too much money on it, its a 94 Acura after all. Save up, have fun, and buy a something you always wanted after school (no offence to your car or any Acura people on here).

Actually dont listen to me, when I think about it, Im going to spend stupid money when I have bills and morgage.

HAHAHA :) too funny responses. Luckily, I have parents that put A LOT into my university savings so for all 4 years I only really have to come up with maybe 1000 bucks...as for the wheel and deal idea, though it would be nice... I am locked into a relationship at the moment haha (2 years and going strong  ) So that is kinda why I got the idea of "hey I have 1200 bucks to screw around with... may as well spend it on my car!" Thanks again for the opinions... gave me a good laugh for a few minutes :P

Put your money awya for something else

kifler
06-29-2007, 05:44 AM
Invest it.

To put it on a 94 is really a waste of money. If you put that way for 3-4 years, it'll grow and then once you buy your first "real" car, then you can mod that to shit with the money you just saved.

Why would you put it in something that'll only depreciate?

I am locked into a relationship at the moment haha (2 years and going strong  )

this is college baby, it's a whole new ballgame.

You know how many of my friends relationships lasted, once college began?

ZERO.

Slowly within the first semester they dissintegrate, one or two last 'til the first summer but by year two BAM, Sangle. Mine lasted three days into college, then I woke up and ran

far

far away

...and I have a lot of friends, and a great butt.

Keep your dough for the sex drugs and rock & roll. I an't wait til I have a child of my own to raise.

I am in my last year of college i have more then enough money in the bank to buy a car...but i am going to wait till i get a good job.

I choose school over cars awhile ago. Sucks having to take the freaking bus expecially from orleans but in the end i will have upwards of 5 grand to buy a car other then 1000 bucks to get a pos.

and withthe price of food at any post secondary school that money will dwindle fast. Keep it in your pocket.

save that money for school. You WILL need it.
