We've seen people say their cars handle amazing, take corners and some ramps at xxx amount of speeds, outrun bikes on twisties and creating useless posts about tire advices etc... Which one of you awsomest all talk, Schumacher gene'd redwhiners members are actually going to participate?

A little different then lapping. You get about 8 runs, lots of fun, and also helps you brush up your car control skills.

You should come out this year ;)

I definitely want to do it this year, ive been putting it off for a while. We dont' have to attend every event do we, if we just want to go out for 1 weekend?

It's, as some like to put it, the equivalent of masturbating.

Sure, it gets rid of the itch, but you can't compare the two.

Yup, but then again, you can still go lapping, and do autocross. It just means if you aren`t using street tires for neither of the events, having 3 sets of wheels with 3 different tires on it. :5shots:

They don't work like that. If your classed in G or H in SCCA guidlines they will stick you in D or E.

When I went they said " uhhhhhhh, your in C Class".

The fact I had suspension mods put me in the B class with 500hp Mustangs.

Yay look at my with my 100hp!!! I got stomped! haha

I thought lapping vs wheel to wheel racing was the equivalent of mast.. to zex !

anyhow...

I love lapping with buddies, it's a way to race friends in a safe environment.

Autocross... it's a lot of fun, but here are my cons:

you don't get to battle directly with your opponents... the cat and mouse game is the most exciting part of racing imo.

you get a 2 minute run every hour, it gets long... (vs lapping as much as long as you can, aka devilonwheelz asking for 1 more lap 10 times in a row in my car hahahaha)

you have to marshall (vs chill in the pits)

less speed

a sea of cone can be confusing

So, does anyone wanna explain to me how this autocross event works? I've never tracked before and this summer seems to be a great time for me to gain some "tracking" experience.

Can someone provide me some details? Such as how much tire I'm going to wear, what I need, etc.

Tire wear will depend on your driving style and the type of tire you are using.

I wouldn't show up with all season tires, or just generic tires, I assume you drive a civic, if you are on a budget you can find a decent set of tires like Falken Azenis RT-615's and wheels for pretty cheap.

What you need is a mechanically safe car. With preferably a decent set of tires on it. If you do have it, an air pump for the tires, some chalk to mark your tires or shoe polish is good too (white), and a good tire pressure gauge.

It is not exactly tracking, but more of a parking lot racing.

You show up at Scotiabank place at 8AM. Sign up, walk the course a couple of time to get used to it and not get lost during your runs, becase in a sea of cones it gets confusing, specially for newbies. Your car will get classified in the class that it fits into. Depending on the year make model of the vehicle and also the modifications done to your car.

Then there is a run order by the number given to cars. You do your run, then you marshall for 5-10 minutes then do and other run, marshall etc... You will have to marshall after each run, if you dont' you will get disqualified.

People at the MCO events are very mature and helpful. They will give you pointers, rides in their cars and etc... to help you get started.

Don't get turned off if you show up and you aren't doing as good as you planned.

Don't blame your car for not doing so greatly, it is mainly the driver that makes a huge difference at this event.

Wow! Thanks for that great post!

I'm driving a 2008 Honda Civic Si Coupe and the stock all-season tires on it are 215/45/17 Michelin Pilots or something like that. Still recommend me to buy some tires for the autocross?

if you're just going to try it, go with the stock tires, see if it's something you enjoy...you can always get better tires later

IMO, it's a waste of time and money

40$ gets you a total of 10 minutes of fun, you waste the rest of the day standing around and getting baked by the sun

I'd rather just lap :victory:

Lapping will run you anywhere north of $400 for the day. So $35 dollars vs $400.... :dunno:

Class really won`t matter. Untill you start getting competitive. And that usually takes some time.

V70 is either Class D or Class E. V70 R is class D.

Plus add the mods on top of that, I`d say J would be possibbly in class B or C

120$ trackdays can be found

go, spend a day driving (yes, more than 8 minutes), not standing around

I'm saying, it's easier to make a little course for handling adn what not outside of an event, then it is to find a place where you can used a road as a track.

$120 track days? What about brakes / tires / gas?

Track day entry is $120 sure, but seriously it's way more expensive than that. 2 track days and I need new tires $1000, brakes $250, gas $100 / day.

But I suppose if you drive miss daisy you may not need new brakes or tires.

Don't worry about what class you're in. If you haven't run before, chances are pretty good you won't have much chance of winning anyway.

And don't worry about the cone spacing. Sometimes they're tight but there are a few other big cars that compete (Legacy GT, Maxima, Accord, my SHO, etc).

You like it or you don't that up to you.... but for some they make up their minds even before trying.... some don't want to try it cause they don't want to be showed up by lesser cars....

For the $$, it's pretty hard to beat.

Come out and try it out.... be receptive and ask for advice / take rides with others in between runs/marshalling. and get more experienced drivers to get in with you and help you with your driving. IF you're receptive in learning, you'll improve over time... and the more events you do, the progress will show over the season.... if you do 1 or 2 events per year, you won't improve much.

For lapping, I don't know where you guys are getting your $$? even at Shannonville evening rental is still $300/hr + gst for half the track... and it's a 2-2.5hr drive to get there...

True ''lapping days'' are expensive, BUT there's ways around that.

St-Eustache have these Drifthing nights and in between drift sessions, there's some ''time attacks''. Those are as cheap as you can get seat time on a ''real'' track (I know ST-Mustache is not the same as the other big tracks).

There's also a few other lapping events on that track that are pretty cheap and only like an hour away from here.

Brakes you don't wear out, I've had the same auto-x brakes now for 4 years and they show ZERO sign of wear. Tires sure and gas yeah, but one track day burns 100 times more of both. Hence the "track days are a lot more than $120).

So Auto-x is $30 + wear / gas $35 max.

There is talk of pre-registration being available but as of now it's just show up, sign the waiver, pay the $40 (for non-members, $30 for members) and run. You need to show up and register before 9am but it's better to get there at least a half hour earlier to walk the course a couple of times, especially if you're new. Newbies tend to get lost on course and it can be frustrating.

I can't wait for autocross season. For the price, you can't beat it. I will definitely be out this year. Hopefully the EF will be ready by may 24. i'll probably be running on all-seasons though. Hope to see you all out there this year!

I strongly recommend showing up early to walk the course. The first few times that I ran, I remember getting horribly lost. It's really frustrating and pretty embarrassing as well. Learn the course as much as possible before the event starts and on your first run, just take it easy and get a feel for it.

currently the form is broken for any non mco member attempting to pre register.

update: the form works for non CASC (FIA-ASN) affiliated clubs, you can now preregister if you are not a member of any sanctioned motorsports club (40$)

I'm already signed up but it would be nice to know for future events

The Karelo sign up page indicates max 75 participants?? Are you capping the amount of cars aloud to sign up for for each Solo II event??
Or is it just a typo??
- That's correct.
- Capping the number of cars allowed has come back.
- No, it isn't a typo.

At the risk of being obvious, if 76 people show up for event 1, then the last person isn't going to be turned away. However, event 2 may be a different story.

It was never decided there was going to be a cap. It was discussed but we never came to an agreement.

Cap or not, what is the worry? If you show up before 9 there won't be 75 people signed up and if you show up after 9 you are an idiot since you can't walk the course you will get lost and you will piss everyone off and be a danger. There you have it with no sugar coating.
