Well, I found a nice fabbed up equal-length tubular manifold online, so I'll be going with that instead of the Tsudo which I had planned.
As for the progress on the car, the interior is pretty much all done (Gauges, turbo timer, seats, wideband, blah, blah, blah...), and a few enigne components are on. All necessary parts that needed to be removed are gone and the tranny will also be coming out very shortly.
The intercooler piping should be in this upcoming week (01-02-09), so I can start fabbing and fitting that up.
I also have to start fabbing and welding up my exhaust. Got some 3" U-bends and straights coming. i'll be going with a N1-style 3" inlet muffler.

Well, some plans have changed slightly, I'm going to start my bodywork and then do my colour-change on the car. Gonna trailer the car down to the shop on thursday and begin.
The car's already all torn apart and awaiting.
I've also elminated the axle upgrade seeing that after some research was done, OEM H22 axles can hold up to 500WHP, depending on the driving conditions, such as wheel hop and other failing components, so I'll be saving to spend $400-$500, which is always good!
On another note, H22 tranny's in the 4th gen 'Lude, do NOT come out smoothly! Way too tight of an area. It went in much smoothly when I put it in with the JDM motor when I first bought the car.
I'll try to take some shot tomorrow adn post up some pics as soon as I can.

Bodywork and paint is finally finished. gonna be trailering the car and parts home tomorrow night after work (Monday, March 2nd, 2009).
Then going to re-assemble the car, except the front end (until motor work is done), then start mocking up the intercooler and piping.

Well, I've come to the conclusion of painting the Spoon-sport wheels flat black, seeing that the bronze doesn't suit the new blue all that well. But it's also hard to tell with the car still being apart and dirty.
Here are some pics;

Well, with the fuel pump and a few other items on the way, I'm pretty much caught up. So far everythings going pretty smoothly and getting anxious for the month of May!
A lot of routing lines, making brackets, cutting, welding, assembling, disassembling, etc, but it's all going to be worth it!
Spoolin4
03-22-2009, 10:08 PM
The parts list has been updated (22/03/09) and some products changed. I've decided to stick with the Turbo XS RFL BOV, seeing it came with my pipe kit.
The wheels have also been painted, wheel-wells gravel-guarded, and interior cleaned. I also relocated a few things, such as the MSD blaster pack and some other small items.
The clutch and fuel pump should be in early this week, so I'll be able to put them on, then get my tranny back on, aswell as assemble the front end.
I will be picking up the turbo, flange, and gaskets early in April, then I'll be able to make the downpipe and exhaust. Then it's just small things from there, then head to the dyno to put down some numbers and put it on the road!
I'll post some update pics sometime next week.

Thanks for the positive comment! I pretty much copy/pasted this already written information from my local board (Cornwall), hence the updates like 1-2 minutes apart :sorry:
Yes, it is a little high compression, which is why I'll only be running wastegate boost for this summer with a good/safe tune, then sleeve the block next winter and raise the psi.

I just tuned a Lotus Exige with factory 11.5:1 compression to 12psi of boost. From the factory they run 7-8psi on that compression ratio. High compression and boost doesn't scare me, you just have to be careful with the timing.
Now, a few words of advice about your build. First, get rid of the crank pulley and put on either a stock or a fluidampr. If you leave a non-damped one on there then there is a very good chance your oil pump will explode. I have a 480whp engine in the shop right now that met that same fate. New crank, bearings and a complete engine rebuild. All for a pulley.
Second point is that 450cc injectors will be too small for a boosted H. At bare minimum you're going to need 550cc to run in the 6-8psi range. I know it's overkill but I'm running 1000cc on mine. At 8psi I put down 320whp so that would be starting to push even 550cc. If you plan on going forged then get the 1000cc otherwise get 640-780cc
Hope that helps.

Yeah but don't they also have a forged bottom end? The H is still a strong engine! you should listen to hackish and get rid of the pulley!! its garbage!!

Nope. The engine in that is pure Celica. The ECU is entirely different, made by EFI in Italy. Same company that does the ECU for the Murcelago we're working on a flash for. You can image that no Lotus guy would permit someone to install a Toyota part in their vehicle :p

I read about the crank pulley issue on several forums. I think I'll put the OEM one back on, just to not risk losing a motor over something small like that.
As for the injectors,, I am looking for around 310-320whp, so I'll stick with your word and try to find some 550's.
Therefore unorthodox underdrive pulley and DSM 450CC injectors for sale! ;)
Thanks for the comments and suggestions guys, keep it up, all the info is very handy!

A little hint, most of the fuel injectors are the same price or very close from 550-1000cc. Get the size you need, not something that's just sufficient. I'm making 320whp on my H22 at 8psi and there is lots of extra room on the 1000cc injectors.

Alright, lots has been done over the weekend. I put the flywheel, clutch, and transmission on with everything attached and axles back in.
I also put the fuel pump in, and I must say it's nice to have access to the fuel pump from underneath the rear seats, because I wasn't in the mood to drop the tank, lol.
The fenders are on and aligned, headlights and HID components are all back in, and rocker moldings are also on. The car is starting to look like a car again.
I will be heading to Montreal Wednesday to pick up my brand spanking new 60 trim turbo, then I can start fabbing up the downpipe and dump tube.
I've also found an easier solution for my custom exhaust, Kteller makes pre-bent 3" pipe kits for common Hondas and they go for a good price. Basically buy the kit, then either weld the flanges on or make it a one piece, use whatever muffler, etc... The kit comes with the hangers, flanges, bolts/nuts, gaskets, piping. Pretty much everything but the muffler.
I also took Hakish's advice, knowing that he's built boosted H22's and knows what he's talking about. I put the OEM crank pulley back on and slapping in some 550cc injectors till next winters project.
Well, here are some updated pics of the project;

Sounds like a good build. way to rep the H22.
I'm not sure if you've made a typo or you're about set yourself up for a big problem.
the JDM Type S motor only comes with the ATTS enabled transmission. It is similar to USDM Type SH Motor and Tranny. The ATTS unit will cease function if more than 250WHP is passed through it.
Perhaps you mean the JDM Sir Spec Motor.

JDM block with Type S pistons is what I'm leaning towards, therefore everything minus the ATTS pretty much.
And yes, next winter the internals will be going low-comp. aswell as sleeved.
As for the negative comments, meh, whatever, shows how immature some are.
Other than that, thank you all for your positive comments, things are coming along with the car. I'll post update pics and progress asap.

lol, I'm just stating what the guy told me when I bought them. I got them from Osaka motors in Montreal, mind you they'll lie if they can, either way, they're light and look nice.
Dunno exactly what they are, there's no part number or serial number in any form, which is why I'm saying what they told me... Spoon replicas... I said the same thing your saying though when I bought them, but who really knows...
Also, thanks for the positive comment on the project. I'm getting impatient by seeing everyone else out driving their cars...

This guy has a nice build going, repping the Prelude as it should be. Don't shit in his thread.
You think it is an import vs domestic thing?

Those wheels are looooooong gone. They were american racing wheels and had a polished lip, even after I painted them bronze (kept the polished lip) that one time. I sold them to a friend in Cornwall actually aswell as my 17"s. And 1 was bent pretty bad, so it wouldn't still be on my car.
Pretty damn identical to what I have now though. The ones I have now are 8" with .48 offset and much lighter and were bronze originally, but now black. but like I stated earlier, I'm only stating what I've been told, either way, they're light, nice, and do the job! Replica or not, who cares, I don't. I rather get replicas that are sometimes 1/2 of the price you'd pay for authentic name brand wheels.
Hell, Jay's "Drag" wheels are Rota replicas and they're just as nice, if not nicer, and lighter!
But good job on researching a super old thread though! ;)

As for the project, wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much to list of whats been done since my last "log". The car's back together, now I just have to modify the wastegate dumptube and start on the 3" turbo-back exhaust, then it's off to get tuned!
Still waiting on brake pads, but until they come in I'm gonna clean up the car a bit tomorrow.
I should have some pics up tomorrow sometime!

K. scroll back and re-read what was previosuly said, When they were purchased from Osaka the guy said shit that obviously isn't true (them being Spoon wheels). I already know they arn't and never said they were.
As for the American racing wheels, they were sold mid summer last year and one rim was seriously bent after nailing a pot hole, and they were sold bronze with the polished lip. I didn't feel like paying to have it repaired by PJacques, therefore I went to Osaka, and as crooked as any other import junk yard they claimed the wheels I have now are Spoon replicas, which obviously ARN'T. They were a dark bronze when I purchased them, but are now black.
So............ when people ask me what I have I say; "I was told spoon replicas, so I say that."
Now even if they arn't, what do I say they are? There's no badging or anything on them to describe the company. BUT I weighed them and they are 11lbs wheels and have a .48 offset and are 8"s in width.
The American racing wheels, were around 14-15lbs wheels when I was using them.
So, to make you 3 happy, I'll remove the Spoon replica shit and just say 15" wheels, because it apparently affects your lives.
I don't know what I did to any of you guys, but whatever.

Were not "nit picking" about his car, the build is sick and props for building it all yourself dude.
There's just no point of taking credit for parts that you don't have. No one is going to say your a doushbag if you say you have a replica this or non-lsd that. If you get a thrill of getting away with it, by all means continue, it doesn't affect me or anyone else.
Good luck with the rest of the build dude.

Ya, I'm currently modding the wastegate dumptube so it'll clear the alternator, that's the reason why the wastegate isn't on yet. But it'll be on by the end of the week.

There's one pic that makes it look extremely too blue, I agree. But those shots were with the sun directly on the car, it's much nicer in person.

Well, the car is finally done, minus the tuning. If all goes well, I'm hoping to have the car on the road this week.
I made the downpipe and several other components. The catback pipe kit is from Kteller and worked out awsome! The muffler is just an N1 style 3" inlet fart can.
Here are some pictures, I'll post others next time the sun is out, seeing my camera died after taking these;

Well, the basemap is done, gonna get it finalized tuned Thursday if all goes well.
I might have to weld on a resonator or something because the exhaust is god damn loud!
After the tune, they're going to do the safety and well, for e-test I'm gonna have to figure something out, then I can put plates on it/insurance, then I'll be out.

Props to a good build. Good job man, keep it up!
Thanks! The positive comments are greatly appreciated, and makes the build worth while!
Ran into a few issues though. I had a huge vacuum leak, turns out it was my throttle body gasket. Bad news about it is that the basemap needs to be redone, and the gasket was back-ordered. They say it should be in tomorrow.
And another shitty note; the guy who sold me the injectors said they were low impedance 550's and they wern't. They're high impedence. Therefore, the 450's are back in until I can find some proper 550cc injectors. Basically what this means is that my setup won't be getting it's full potential with the 450's.
Basically, if anyone has any 550's or larger for sale, please let me know!
Also, I'm selling the Blox vacuum manifold seeing I only need 2 vacuum ports and all the emissions junk is gone, therefore I have TONS of vacuum ports to use for those 2 components.

Edwin (tuner) was able to finish the N/A fuel map, but wasn't able to do the boost fuel map, because my wastegate dumptub wasn't long enough and the SS pipe shop was aleady closed, therefore we have to wait until Monday to finish that up.

I've delt with KVR with previous vehicles, so I'd rather stick with one tuner. And he knows what he's doing, the car was running awsome, but the tired motor didn't like the boost it and the crank went for a walk.
So, new motor coming and aiming to be done by Friday with a retune, if all goes smoothly, and if we find a motor in good shape!

I'm pleased with the car and on a Beltronic meter I've been able to pull a 13.2@112mph on street tires.
