-----RL photo SHOOTOUT-------
It is all in the spirit of fun, and the love of cars, and photography

(In 1 day) 37 votes , 30 (81%) want to see the RL Photographers flex some skill.
http://www.redliners.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=28158

Your mission: To get to the location/subject, have a shoot out with your fellow enthusiasts, submit your 1 photo, see how it all stacks up.

--------------------------------
Date: To be announced
Submission Deadline: To be announced
Location/Subject: To be announced (Ottawa)

Who: Anyone that feels they have photo skills
How: Put yourself in the list of photographer entrants
Compete: Through submission of a single photograph to the (RL photo SHOOTOUT)
Judgment: The photo’s will be collected/Numberd/tracked, and submitted offsite* to a round of judging. When judging closes, Results will be given and the photograph with the most votes wins. (Ties are permitted.) *A site like Canon forums or other photo enthusiast site.

Rules:

1- All entrants to the contest will be given the location of the subject material for the photo shoot. This information will be sent out to everyone at the same time, and the contestants will have until the submission deadline to turn in the photograph they have selected for judging.

2- Photoshop and image tweaking is allowed but not required. At time of submission The contestant should state if the image has been edited in anyway. Images that have had any type of post treatment will be noted as such for the competition. All images, edited or not, are to be judged together. The noting of the doctored photo's is to aid the judges when discerning the marit in some parts related to capture skill.

3- Contestants cannot change or move things in the shoot out location, minor adjustments can be made for “shooting comfort” as long as objects moved are not in the photograph and are then returned to position. Under this guideline no people/models/or any other objects should be added to the shooting area and or photographs.

4- Photographer watermarking and image marking is NOT permitted. Contestant has claim to the original images, and can do what they wish after the competition, their name will also be linked with their image post judging. This is necessary to keep the chance of judge bias based on photographers identity.

5- Images will be numbered after submission; said numbers will be used for tracking and judging. Because of the nature of the competition the HOST AND TRACKER CANNOT VOTE OR GIVE INFORMATION ON IDENTITIES.

*6- Release of information : Type of gear used, adjustments and edits made, software used, and names of photographers etc will all be held till the voting is done. At that point all can discuss the relevant information.

7- ANYTHING GO’s shooting style, type, angle, or approach, etc etc …. This is where the skill and creativity shines through and gets judged.

Anyone seeking amendments to this list please say so before competition starts.

I'm not actually signed up.. i'm outta town..

so how does this work? what kind of creative freedom do the shooters have? and do the other photographers get to watch? i don't see this working out so well..

you should hold contests like JDMR instead.. just have a theme.. then shoot it.. that way the photos will look diverse

I am still trying to figure out how and or where I can have a nice shoot worthy vehicle in a decent location..... for a long period of time. The ideal scenario I was going for was Give the photographers a range of like Starting Saturday at 9am Till Sunday 6pm ...... and then a few days to submit a photo . That way people can come and go, and or be alone etc etc.... or if they wanted... go with a friend... The idea with the one Location/subject .... is to have that as the control .... and eliminate that from playing a part in the judgment ... so that the only thing is ... the photographers skill, style, approach, creativity, and so forth.

But I do see where you are comein from......

just give a location and a 2-3 day time frame, We dont need any longer, either you make it happen or not. Lets just have fun with this. But be specific on the location and not something general like downtown ottawa lol.

I still disagree with this setup.. it's unfair because some people will have less ideal lighting conditions.. and again.. the subject/location limits creativity.. have ONE theme and have people submit photos.. ensure the EXIF data is still in tact and be sure they photographed it within the time frame

We want it to basically conclude: Everyone is given lemons, and all make some decent lemonade, BUT, this one dude just has it mixed perfect... and I would definitely go to his stand first.

The ideal subject needs to be a shoot-worthy vehicle in a location type that tends to be used in automotive photos.
The control / restriction of the situation is to remove the subject/location variable in a calculated way, just leaving the photographer as the object of judgment. This way people can see it that even their car would make it in a great image with that Photographers skill. Instead of, "Thats a sweet pic, but it won because the photographer took a photo of a clean Mclaren f1 inside of a spaceship, and all the others took shots of ladas"

AzNKiD

sure but i have a feeling that if you give everyone some lemons, water, ice and sugar, there will be a lot of similar tasting lemonade.

Have we decided on a subject/location yet? I have a car that's accessible to everyone for this weekend out in the west end that's indoors. Car will be taken out Monday so this weekend is the window of opportunity ...

I dont think this weekend would fall in lines with the Heads up buffer time that most people where expecting.

Should have let me know... I was asking if anyone could help in that area... no one had offerd...

I am waiting for a few people to get back to me.... getting this part of it done is tricky...

Anyone Else got sumthing they can setup? Please let us know.

Why don't you guys choose a car from a dealership?

Maybe take shots of a Porsche or something from Mark Motors?

The cars don't move.. sometimes, so I see why that shouldn't work?
