View Full Version : Rocker Guard?

Preparing my Blazer for another winter and I have the typical GM paint flaking on the rocker panels.
I was planning on sandblasting the rockers to get rid of the old paint and surface rust and then was thinking about applying rocker guard.
1-Where would I go to get rocker guard paint and would I be able to apply it with a paint gun?
2-Any special primers or clearcoats involved afterwards?
I'll probably be asking the counter guy at the place I buy from but was just seeing if anyone here had previous experiences with this stuff.
Thanks!

Put a self etching primer on any bare metal before you rocker guard, there are 2 types of rocker guard normally, a rubberized version and a dry hard version. Either would work, although i recomend painting your rockers with a rustolium paint before you apply due to the fact the rubberized stuff will hold moisture. After its dry you can generally base/clear as normal.
GL hope that helps!

Try
Upper Canada Auto Supply In 2759 Lancaster Rd
I bought a can that attaches to a gravel guard sprayer on the compressor.
Was about $17 for both. It's the "real" stuff body man use.
Nothing to compare to what C.Tire offers.
Good luck!

I just need the gun that goes between this and my compressor. The guy said it was called a "shultz" gun? I can get this at Princess Auto I guess?

is it like Line-X?
Nope. I think Line-X is a rubbersized coating whereas the rocker guard stuff is a thick bumpy paint that's more resistant to chipping than regular factory finishes.
Off to MPS Metro Auto & Ind Prods this weekend to pick up primer and clear coat.
here, Im coating my whole truck in line-x type stuff. I have one picture of it while it still wet, I'll post so you can see it.

I will be stocking that rubberized rocker guard stuff at my new store in Orleans once we open at the end of Sept. - I know you've already purchased it, but for future reference (Y)

Good to know thanks!!
Picked up more air compressor hose, a gravity fed sand gun, and some M hose fittings. The fittings were the wrong size though so wasn't able to do any work today :(

nice toy, i got 2 caps lying around as well as a spare chrome rear bumper that'll fit your truck if you're interested. i also have a borg warner 1345 transfer case and dana 44 TTB front axle setup if you wanna dick around with that stuff.
i've got an 86 F250, 6.9L 4spd 4x4, now it's got a kingpin dana 60 in front, NP205, and may get the original 6.9 and 4spd or might put in a cummins 6BT / Eaton 6spd out of a Freightliner FL70.

Got all the couplers and hardware for the sand blaster and tested a small area on the rocker and it works well getting rid of the old peeling rocker guard and surface rust!
Once I'm down to metal I guess apply some vinyl wash and a primer :dunno:
