Ok so here is my question, more so for you guys that have some experience in increasing displacement, i am currently building a 2.7 liter engine, i was wondering if it would be worth it to punch it out to a 3.0 or around that, now can just over sizing the pistons to say a 0.030 over do that? or is there more to it than just using bigger pistons.
Any info would help.

what engine are you speaking of?
depends if the motor was designed to be beating the shit out of. either way, i'd do a custom sleeving job, then decide to bore it out more

im building a Twin turbo 2.7 Tiburon engine
yeah i may have to sleeve it, which is fine with me i just have to check the thickness with a local machine shop

you have to source headgaskets to fit that bore and probably fortify the bottom end to handle it

I would not increse the engine size. for that motor being a FWD.
First question
How much power do you want?
Is the block a open deck or closed deck.
If you wanna make i dunno say 400whp im pretty sure the stock block would handle it with pistons.
I would search the tib boards im sure guys have done this.
Stock block bored .20 over with some CP's and some rods and new parts tunned properly would be a great torquy motor.

Yeah i have been doing allot of research on this motor, i have been a member of the Tib boards for a few years as well, so i guess i should specify, this is going to be a Twin turbo V6 setup, i'm aiming for about 500hp or slightly over that, here is a picture of the motor below.

Basically a straight forward block, but i don't have my heart set on over sizing, i was just curious to see if it could be done and what i could expect to get from doing that.

closed deck. 500 on a stock motor is 'ok' to a certain extent, but sleeving would be more ideal.

yeah that is what i am thinking, i spoke to a couple of machine shops and the price was cheaper than i thought even with the install

Its closed deck. Sleeves dont need to happen there. Assuming they would even make them. Overbore might not be worth doing

For all the costs, the loss in block strength, and over heating issues of thin walled sleeves, why not run an extra pound or two of boost, for the differance in hp between a boosted 2.7 vs a boosted 3.0.
What kind of budget are you looking at here?? A RELIABLE 500hp twin turbod v6 is not going to be cheap. what kind of hp is the block able to handle?

well money for one is not such a factor, and sleeving is not a priority either, im probably going to go the regular way by adding simple all forged internals and run it like that, there are a few Tib's in the u.s. and the u.k. running 600+ hp on the stock block with internals done, so to achieve 400-500 on this block is very doable.

I would not bore it. Your sleeves are too close together. Like statted just run more boost.
I would not even sleeve it. Pistons and rods and new bearings and build and get it tunned right.

Exactly. Look at the j35 guys the cl type s guys who make 400whp and same torque. All it does is spin. Pistons rods and spend lots of money to get better traction and brakes
