Has anyone rolled back the Km's on an odometer? I've looked around, and some say it can be done, but usually the numbers will shake afterward.

I'm not dead set on doing it, i;m switching cluster for one with a tach, and if its easily done i'd like to change the kms to my cars.

Thanks

You may be able to swap out the speedo part of the cluster into the new one. I've done it with ek clusters, so I know if works for that generation.

You can't and it's highly illegal lol...

Before you do your cluster swap, set both side by side and take a picture of them both showing in plain sight the odo reading, then pop the new one in ur car. Do the math afterwards to get the right numbers from then on

It shouldn't be illegal if he swaps in the original speedo from the old cluster...

if it's an ek or eg, it's about 5 minutes of work swapping speedometers between the two clusters

Legally, I believe you have to write down the odometer reading onto the back of the cluster before you rollback. There is some paperwork you have to go through before doing so. I'd have to dig up the information. I have it somewhere.

This applies to a different odometer being installed and rolled back in order to match the chassis' actual mileage. If you're going to take your original odometer and install it into a different cluster, thereby keeping the original and actual chassis mileage, I believe you still have to document this information because once the cluster seal is broken, you are guilty of tampering with the equipment and could be held responsible for fraud.

This also applies when installing a new engine into a vehicle - be it the same model engine or the ever popular swap. The chassis and engine readings must be documented.

If anyone knows how to do this i have an 00 civic PM please!

I've made a few posts in regards to this... My speedo started acting up a while back stuck on ~30k and then would start working on and off. I thought at first it was my VSS but after picking up another speedo and popping it in its working ago. The only issue is the new one has 350k and my original had 147 so if someone whose done this before can help that would be awesome!

Thanks!

Is it really that easy? I need to rip mine out because the bulb is burnt or the wiring is incorrect from previous owner, so I have to guess how fast im going at night. Any tips?

You could just do simple math to keep track of actual milage. Rolling back odometers is a really bad idea seeing as its highly illegal as stated by other members in this thread. Just bust out a calculator

For the record, I've removed the cluters out of eg's, ek's and da's and they were all easy to do. The EG was to change the bulbs, the EK was to install a tach into a non tach cluster, and the DA was to install an JDM XSi 8'200rpm tach to replace the USDM LS 6'800rpm one to go well with the B17A1 motor swap.

They're all easy to do. If you have another cluster you want to install and still have your original mileage on it, simply switch over the speedometer assembly. Be careful handling it. Try not to drop, hit or push on it because the needle is a calibrated spring that will fuck up if you mess around too much.

What kind of car is this? Is it an EG or EK civic?

The EK has these two clusters available. You can simply swap the speedo out of either and install it into the other.

The EG has these two clusters available. Same things, you can sway the speedo.

You can its easy to change. It will become bluntly obvious when it is apart how to change it without forcing the numbers on the dials.

Boo hoo it is illigal. So is swearing on a sidewalk, or farting in a church.

News to me.. I did many engine swaps and dash swaps - never did anything like that, no one cares not even the MTO, as long as the odometer is the same as the milage on the car as it should be, when you sell or renew plates - you give the milage, they process it done.

Its not a 5 minute job... Maybe to roll the numbers but not taking out the cluster no way.
