Well I thought I'd make a contribution to the projects section, even though this particular project is nothing to be proud of really (not to mention the car is long gone).

It was my first time doing any extensive bodywork, and my first car that I painted. I did the whole job for about 300 dollars including dupont paint, reducer, bondo, materials, steel etc. I did this job mainly for experience, and in the end I think it turned out pretty well.

In hindsight however, although I loved that little car I will never put that kind of work into a rusty fwd honda again.

___________

This is how it started out, it reminds me of a WWII vehicle or something:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic713_1271307414.jpg?t=1271344468

Next, I cut out all the rust on the quarter panels, rockers, etc:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic701_1271306932.jpg?t=1271344576

I then took the ebay quarters and welded together the other sections that I had cut out due to rust:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic705_1271307090.jpg?t=1271344644

To fab the two sheetmetal parts, I used a vise with two angle iron sections from a bedframe as a bend and break, and banged out the rest with a hammer and dolly. Once finished, I tacked the new steel on and filled any cracks with some waterproof adhesive shit I bought from MPS Metro:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic724_1271308380.jpg?t=1271344832

Then, I ground the tacks and filled all the quarter panel seams with Royal Metal:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic727_1271308496.jpg?t=1271344847

I also fixed other all the other holes in the car, like this one:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic708_1271307185.jpg?t=1271344878

Next came all the bondo, which was a blast:

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic716_1271307628.jpg?t=1271344962

Once that was done, I fixed any other spots, sanded and masked the car (and yes I sanded the hood and the rest of the car much better and with much finer paper than is obvious in this pic lol)

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic720_1271307796.jpg?t=1271344982
http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic721_1271307796.jpg?t=1271344996

I then set up a paint booth using home depot vapour barrier. Out came the princess auto paint gun, and I primered and painted car. I used the OEM nightwawk black or w.e it is, it's black with blue metallic

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic718_1271307628.jpg?t=1271345016

http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu346/Russell_1987/user3502_pic723_1271307894.jpg?t=1271345042

And that was it. I'm sure all the bodywork guys are going to lol at this project - I'm looking at you TroyMp3 - but it turned out alright for the money that was put into it.

The moral of this story is that it was great experience and that I can really appreciate all of the work that goes into quality bodywork at shops.

You can't see them even if you're signed in? I can see them, I used the redliners album attachment thing.

edit: Ok, I've uploaded them all to photobucket, they should all work now

Looked like a lot of work for sure.I think it turned out great as you said for the $$ invested and it being your first time.

Where did you get the paint, primer package so cheap ?

RT/SH

Well I suppose the 300 is a bit misleading as I had the steel and got the primer for free.

A friend gave me a quart or primer, and I used a Nason Full-thane Eurothane paint, reducer and activator package that cost about 200.

Bondo was 20, quarters were 50 and the rest was sandpaper, tape, tack cloth, bondo scapers, files etc.

Nice job, turned out really well once it was all painted, body lines seem to match up well.

Where did you get it painted?

+1 for fixing metal with metal/good thread

I painted it myself, in my garage.

I hung a roll of clear vapour barrier from the ceiling all the way around the walls, in order to make a paint booth. I wet the floors before painting, to minimize dust kickup, and I set up an exhaust fan in the doorway.

Like this, except without the 2x4 framing:

looks good to me!, I know how hard it is to do decent work out of your home and not in a shop, from painting in a controlled environment to a garage, or makeshift booth is night and day, there are alot of contributing factors. Ive done a couple "at home" paint jobs and they NEVER turn out like the ones i would do at work, compressor is to small, i generally use cheaper equipment at home then at work, humidity etc.. For 90% of the people modding hondas, or DIY bodywork i think you did an excellent job, dont be to hard on yourself!

No clearcoat, it's a full eurothane. All the paint was bought from MPS Metro

Not retarded, everything was done with a Mig. I used galvanized sheetmetal, which was a mistake, if I was to do it again I'd use mild steel.
