1988 rx-7 n/a.

when i start the car ANYTIME of the day it revs up to 3000 as it should and slowly comes down 1500, as it should. But then it chokes and stalls out. It will do this about 2 times then finally stay started. As well when it is at normal operating temp. and i rev it up it will drop to 500, it will feel like it is going to stall, then jumps back up to 750.

So basically what my question is, wtf is going on here?

Im new to rotaries so if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be grand!

Another useful post by the champion of all that redline. I don't know if you got the RX fixed with the genious post up there, that OMG was very informative. If not have you gone over all the vacuum lines? On my buddies old RX someone would have to pinch a vacuum line shut for the car to start up properly!

Sounds like the car may be searching for an idle, Check your BAC and TPS.

the inital cold start to 3000 rpm is normal, then it should drop to 700-900 rpm and hold.

Check your timming see if its correct, then if it is, check spark plugs ( and replace if possible ),

then check for leaks ( spray carb cleaner around the engine bay and if it revs up , you have a leak ).

then check BAC and TPS

i'm going to check the timing tonight cause i thought thats what it was at one point but got sidetracked.
I have already looked for leaks but i havnt tried it with the carb cleaner so ill give that a shot.

I really think its the BAC though because when at normal operating temp, when i put my foot on the brake the idle drops and ive been told that is a sign of a sticking or malfunctioning valve.

Thanks for all of your input guys. Ill keep you posted!
