Ok well this is an on going project, started at the end of may last year, but rarely have time to work on it with everything else going on at the shop. Here are some details of the project.
The car is a 2001 Subaru 2.5RS, was bone stock when i started. As for the parts... i'll let the pics do the talking, im too lazy to type them all out.
before i started:

Looks really good. Ultimately I didn't have the patience to re-work my harness for a WRX computer but I still may so I can actually tune. I assume you went ahead with a 2002 WRX ECU?

Thanks for all the props people
Hackish, the harness merge iss a big headache, and takes so much time we are no longer offereing it to customers because we end up loosing our shirts on the labour. It is wired for a 2002+ wrx ecu, i actually plan on using a 2004 ecu i beleive, im not 100% sure, Chris has a certain year he wants to use for reasons i'll post once the cars running ;)
What motor are you going to run in your subbie? Pre version 6? Have you done any wiring yet? Standalone?

A little update....
So i found some time to get some work done, first thing was to install the new downpipe. Got her installed and fabbed up a custom belt tensioner so i can let it run (needs alternator) and fired her up again. (lots of pics coming soon)
When i had it running before sans downpipe i couldnt hear anything but cool noises, loudass exhaust and spinning turblow. Now that its quiet i got to hear a new terrible noise coming from my engine... turns out the motor i swapped in has a bad rod bearing :( 2 steps forward, 5 steps back. So the motor will have to come out againnn and 20hrs of swapping heads/intake mani, exhaust mani ect over to another bottom end ect will have to be done. Not the end of the world, but hopes of having this thing finished sometime this month seem to be slipping away.
For now im going to finish up all the loose ends. Sunday i redid all the brakes (forgot to take pics) with new rotors, pads, fancy sti braided lines, super blue racing brake fluid. Bled the new master, and all 4 calipers and the pedal feels amazing again.
Monday i powdercoated my rear sway bar, and installed that, along with fancy sti pillowball lateral links.
Wed night i plan to finish fitting the intercooler piping so i can get it welded up. And hopefully by wed my top plates for the rear coilovers will be here so i can install my suspension and wheels, roll my fenders, and get it mobile again.
Once all thats done i'll pull the motor and tackle that damn bottom end. I'll post pics soon and try and remember to take more aswell.

ok, its friday and im not being too productive at work, so here....
Snapped a few pics of my 20mm rear sway bar that i powdercoated red. You can see my JDM pink pillowball lateral links too... not in the best of shape but thats ok, i plan on making them adjustable and re-coating them pink.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2408.jpg
You can see my Cobb exhaust in this pic too and my KYB suspension....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2409.jpg
A quick shot of what to come...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2410.jpg
I forgot to bring my heat gun to the shop so i had to hold off on the fender rolling for now.
The Stance AL+ coilovers. Bought em used from 'Rex' who is the man when it comes to tuning subarus, he'll be working his majic on my car soon enough.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2411.jpg
Rex got custom lizard skin covers made for the coilovers because he installed them in Febuary and didnt want them rusting out on me. He has since upgraded to fancy Hotbit DT2 RSi coilovers with external resevoirs 50mm pistons ect ect.
Since im installing them no a GC chassis i had to order new lower perches for the front as Rex has the 05+ STI front hubs which arnt compatible.
Taking them apart to clean/switch perches
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2412.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2413.jpg
Cleaned up the rears aswell. Also had to order new rear top plates for the rears as the GC chassis bolt spacing is a tadd different then the GD stuff.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2414.jpg
You can see the fancy upper perch bearings im also installing in that picture... more pics on that later.
Onto the install... KYB struts coming out, not the fancy sti lines : 0 )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2416.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2421.jpg
Sean showed up and i was able to get the front perches unlocked to dissasemble the rest of the front coilovers.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2417.jpg
cleaned and going back together... i decided to leave off the lizard skins on the front as they were a tad ratty and Rex was getting alot of coil bind... the new bearings should fix that but i decided to ditch the skins just incase.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2418.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2419.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2420.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2422.jpg
Ready to go on, and equiped with the new bearings... didnt take any good pictures to show exactly what im talking about.. but they can be seen laying around in a few of the pics.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2423.jpg
Finally installed and dropped down. Also threw on my wheels again :) man i missed these things. They are sporting fancy new rubber aswell. Seems to fit perfectly, but will definately need to roll the fenders.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2424.jpg
Getting the legs of the hoist out from under the car is now a pain... but totally worth it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2425.jpg
Backed it out... first time using the new brake set up, and i must say, getting used to the new single stage booster is going to take a bit.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2427.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2428.jpg
It was settling down even as we were taking these pics. By the time i drove it back in and left for the night it was almost too low. We'll see i may have to adjust it once more.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2429.jpg
Didnt close the passenger side door all the way... oh well

This weekend im going to yank the motor out (hopefully for the last time for awhile) and swap out the bottom end. My friend Sean is going to come help and keep me motivated/drink beer. With some luck we should get it back together by monday for hackish to work his majic on the intercooler piping.
Thank you for awesomeness. My lunch tasted better today and it's DQ... hard to make that shit sparkle.

Thanks for the reppp, tunes are our specialty, springs farr away tho! What ya got planned?
I fired her up tonight, runs good, wired up my rad fans and wired my coolant gauge in the custer and let it cycle the fans. Tomorow if i can find some time i'm gona finish that intercooler piping i keep putting off.
Some bad news... as i have terrible luck, some metal from the sliced and diced rod bearing managed to make it into my turbo feed line and toasted my 20g :( so i'll be swapping in a VF39 and sending it out to get rebuilt.... maybe i'll see if Blouch can upgrade the wheel to the XTR. Hopefully this is the end of my bad luck streak as im dying to drive this thing!

... ok fastforward a week. I forgot about the camera and just got shit done. Finished buttoning up the new motor, dropped it in that night, connected it the next day, finished the intercooler piping, rolled the fenders, drove it over to PSI sans front bumper/headlights ect, had the piping welded up, drove back in the dark... that was interesting. Buttoned up loose ends in the engine bay, put the bumper back on annnndd woolaa!

I'll snap some better photos of the welds ect when i get a chance, Micheal did an awesome job on the welding. I plan on replacing the blue couplers with black when i get a chance, but for now this is how she stands...

Next up is fuel pump install, and dash re-install.

Thanks man, its nice to be rolling around in it finally. Your new rides lookin nice too, but its slow :P
Chris aka REX was working his magic tonight. I'm running wastegate pressure for now, which is only 10lbs, but its still pretty fun! I got a taste of 20ish lbs when my wastegate line blew off, and man i cant wait. The 20g is gona be insane. My poor tranny has no idea what its in for.
Some more pics.

haha even with your shakey hands you still made it look effortless. She's already on the road and running very well. Running on the wastegate spring right now at 10lbs, hopefully adding another 10lbs of boost tomorow if time allows. I'll try and swing by sometime and take ya for a ride, i'd like to borrow your thing-a-ma-jig to pressure test my piping too. I'm working on getting that block for you aswell, theres dabate on who needs it more as we're currently in need of a core at the shop. I'll do my best.
Any word on your paint/trunk situation? I have that wingless trunk still if your in need.

Thanks, im running the stock RS tranny/diff axels still. The first tranny lasted 5 days haha. Swapped in my spare on sunday, so far so good. I found another spare aswell incase im too hard on this one. Hopefully these will last me till i can source/budget a 6 speed swap.
The current tranny's center diff is in much better shape then my previous was. I got some sweet wheel spin in 2nd gear sunday in the rain. This thing is too much fun!

I spun a bearing at the end of the summer. Ive since grabbed a 6spd and rear diff. Grabbing brembo's and other miscelaneous peices in the next few weeks. Then i'll decide what to do about the spun bearing. Whatever motor goes in it, the 20g is going on it this time around. I'm pumped for summer time!

A bit of an update....
Got my hands on a JDM Version 7 STI longblock. They come stock with forged pistons/rods, and spin to 8250rpm... quite a big upgrade from that old broken wrx block to say the least.
Car all pulled apart and the new longblock awaiting all its new life. You can see that being dumped took its tole on all my header wrap.

Old broken motor coming out.

Dirty ass engine bay.... no inner fenders or under tray + oil leaks and exhaust leaks = dirty!~

New Version 7 6spd tranny. Originally had a Version 8, but didnt want the DCCD so i traded for this V7. Strong and simple.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2602.jpg
Used ACT clutch with STI flywheel... hopefully it holds untill i cant figure out a new one.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2605-1.jpg
And shes in... heavy bastards these things are... and TIGHT in a GC chassis. Getting the shifter linkage connected in the small tunnel combined with super stiff motor mounts made for an intresting swap.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2608-1.jpg
Slapped in some beefy STI front axels aswell.... they barely clear everything!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v224/Mx3/IMG_2603.jpg
Just need to get a new oil feed/ACVS line as my old braided one doesnt fit with the new longblock. Also gota get that 20g mounted on there this time around, get a rear diff/hub set up figured out. Tons of stuff to do still and summers on its way!

nice! I have the V8 with the vf37 twinscroll. I'll have to come by for a tune once I put the 6 speed in. i envy your transmission jack.. Question though...did you go for the non dccd for your swap because you are keeping the R160 and replacing the pinion with a 3.90? or are you still gonna swap in a R180 with hubs axles and 2 pots?

ahh im guessing your the one i ran into on jean d'arc in the summer. A tune would bring that motor to life, you dont know what your missing out on.
DCCD or not, you still need the 3:90 final drive in back unless you have an 06?+ usdm tranny as they have a different center diff and step down to the 3:54? ratio. Its all fairly cloudy in my mind. I do plan on swapping out the rear diff, axels, and hubs, just doing things as i get them so shes ready for summer. IMO doing the 6 speed without the R180 is a complete waste. The R160 just cant take the power/abuse.
I'll update the thread as i go, next up is the rear diff ect, then finish buttoning up the motor.
love it so far man!!

yup t'was me :D Ya but first I gotta figure out avcs wiring with a wrx harness. The IA avcs kit is coming soon. I drove the car with avcs off all fall. I can't imagine what its gonna be like with a tune and avcs on! :)
nice build! let me know when your done. I want to see it!
