It's 4800 km each way, some guy from Montreal did it last year in a Toyota Echo

Trackday of a lifetime! :rice:

Just talked to my gf, she's willing to drive with me but it's bad timing with her exams.

Seriously, what other options do we have?

- drive the car itself (48 hours in an s2k... ehrrr...)
- drive a truck + trailer for 2-3 cars. (sleep in various wall-mart parking lots hahaha)
- ship it by train or truck (I'm getting a quote right with autorail.com, update: ontario to cali = 2300$)

neilscivic

or pay a car shipping company to trailer 3-4 cars up from here and fly there

You guys are crazy.

If you trailer your car there, don't forget the gas will be costly. You will go through 7-10 tanks of gas in an F250 pulling a drive-on car trailer for 4800km's.

It would be a very nice experience to do this, but after thinking over a little, you might as well put all that money towards the lapping events at Calabogie, it might not be Laguna Seca, but it is one of the best tracks in North America.

Yep, it's a crazy idea, but after all those hours on Grand Turismo, Forza, NFS, it must be done one day or another (same for the Nurburgring).

Flying down the corkscrew in real life... ah man, just thinking about it makes me a happy camper.

To me, it's worth the 10 000 km round trip. (Plus we could chill in Cali a bit)
If I have to drive my car the whole time, I'll do it.

If I can find 2 other guys willing to go, then getting a huge diesel truck and a 3 car trailer would be amazing.

Do they rent diesel trucks with gooseneck 3 car haulers?

I'll try my best to make it there. Asking around for info never killed anyone.

If this guy made it, why couldn't we?

I never said you can't, worst comes to worst it is only a matter of getting in your car and driving for a couple of days.

I am just saying it will be quite an expensive trip, and would it be worth it.

Bummers, now there's officially a huge hole in my pocket, a 1000$ hole :?
bad start for now... I'll have to see what my main sponsor (visa) says about that.

Convertibles

No convertibles will be allowed to participate in TCRA/NCRC events without proper roll protection for the driver as defined below. Passengers will not be allowed and instruction will not be provided in convertibles without proper roll protection for the passenger. Track stewards will do the broomstick test and drivers will be removed from an event with no refund for failing to have adequate roll protection installed in their car:
Roll Protection Requirement

For safety reasons, all convertibles are required to have roll protection that meets the following criteria in order to be driven at any TCRA/NCRC event.

The car must have roll protection (factory or aftermarket) that allows the driver to pass the "broomstick test." This means that the top of the drivers helmet must be below the line from the top of the roll hoop or bar to the top of the windshield.[1] [2] [3]

1. Factory removable hard tops are normally not structural and do not meet our roll protection requirement.
2. Porsche 911 Cabriolet and BMW convertibles have factory pop-up roll protection systems that meet our roll protection requirement.
3. If the a-pillar is not structural, the front shock mount points should be used for the Broomstick test instead of the front window.

The Broomstick Test

Please note that the broomstick test is dependent on the height of the driver. While we can answer general questions about convertibles, "Is my car legal?" is typically not something TCRA/NCRC can answer for you - you need to do the broomstick test with *you* in the car.

1. Put your helmet on and sit in the driver's seat of your car
2. Lay one end of a stick on top of the windshield, and the other on top of the roll hoop or bar behind your seat
3. The top of your helmet should not be higher than the stick

If you do not pass the broomstick test, the typical solutions are to either get a taller rollbar, or lower your seat(s), or a combination of both.

Here are some links to sites that may provide roll protection solutions. We are not affiliated with any of these businesses, or able to vouch for the quality of these products.

Honda S2000

Hard Dog rollbar
http://www.bethania-garage.com/z3.htm
Buddy Club seat rails and racing seats from f1Spec.com

The removable hardtops on these cars are structural, and acceptable at TCRA/NCRC events.

If you wish to further increase the margin of safety you might consider using arm tie-in straps or a window net to protect your arms from going outside of the car's protected cockpit area.

Hope that answer your question and you can join this event
Thanks/Edmond

wanna do rentals ? lotus elise?

I thought about renting...

Unless it's fully insured on the track (ie CMP Mustang), I wouldn't do it: just think about the consequences of wrecking a rental on a track... having that in mind would screw up my driving big time.

On top of that, there's the issue of fading oem brakes, track worthiness of oem tires, things which can't be neglected on such a difficult track.

Bringing my own car over there will be a lot of fun, it's a lot of driving, but then again, that's why I bought it in the first plase ;)

Sorry Don, I'll have to push back this event to next Spring/Summer, as these guys require a rollbar and my motorsport $$$ is all gone this year (new suspension, new wheels, new windshield + 4 trackdays = broke status)

The only thing I can afford right now is a trip to Top Karting :victory:

I won't give up on Cali anytime soon, I check speedventures.com weekly in order to shotgun the next Laguna Seca Trackday, as they are ok with oem roll hoops.

I'll try my best to match the dates with the season opening of Formula Drift in Long Beach!!!

I'll keep you posted mang :rice: (damn, to think that you drove to vegas not so long ago... just 4 hours away from Los Angeles!!!)
