What is the best product to use to remove heavy baked on brake dust?
THey are clear coated wheels, so I am trying to find something that won't eat through the finish of the wheel.
I found a brand called "Brown Royal", does any place in Ottawa carry this?

I'm sure a claybar would clean that up... don't think it'd harm the clearcoat either.

brake cleaner works well on a lot of stuff...as long as you wipe it off well then use and non abrassive cleaner after I doubt it would comprimise anything.

Prime Lime? Castrol Super Clean?
Oven cleaner will work but don't let it sit on for to long. I used it and a brush and years of it came right of.

I would suggest this stuff: http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/car-detailing-product-discussion/1646-sonax-wheel-cleaner-review.htm
Sonax Wheel cleaner. Haven't used it myself, but countless sources suggest it is the best at taking everything off.

I used to use BMW wheel cleaner, then switched to orange all wheel cleaner, which is practically sonax, doens't take it off though.

I don't think claybar will get the thick crust off. I know it will work on minor pitted areas, but I doubt it'll take off a whole layer of crust.
GTPaul recommended a couple of things, I'll try to stick to what he says and see what happens.

yea he prolly knows best; im sure the clay would work, you'd just go through alot of it if it's a thick buildup

brake cleaner wont work with that. I use a dremel tool with a buffing wheel to get that kind of caked brake dust off. Clay bar will work, if you have 8 hours to waste ion each wheel. lol.
I hate customer that drop off wheels with that shit caked on. its the worst to get off. I'd rather clay bar a whole car with the yellow brake dust particles all over it.

Castrol Super Clean... all day

Gotta be careful with the Super clean, it's been known to lighten paint in the engine bay and BMW E36 guys use it to remove the factory painted grey sideskirts. I suppose it's still milder than brake cleaner...
Spray 9 = WIN, just don't leave it on your paint too long.

AC Delco engine shampoo.
We had a vehicle that I bought for our inventory that had black marks (similar to those in the pic that was posted) all over them that our wheel brite product could not remove. We used some of the AC Delco engine shampoo with a soft-bristle brush and the rims looked mint afterwards.
