Picked up an '83 CB1000C a few weeks ago off a guy in Gatineau. Got it for $500 and more than worth it because its in DECENT shape and low end these things sell for $1500 in the US as long as they are road worthy. Only made 1 year, 1983, which makes it that much nicer, and to top it off, I have a 81 CB900C which my dad bought brand new back in the day. Nice to have a small collection, and they are rock solid bikes.
Never took too much care of it, had a lot of the stock parts missing, and took a spray can to the engine area. It ran, but barely and the tank was full of rust with a pinhole on the bottom seam.
Took it home, got it to start easy off gas down the cylinders but carbs were plugged with rust.
Plan was to take off carbs, clean, reassemble, rebuild if necessary, degrease engine/frame, replace crappy parts with stockers and fix gas tank and seat.
Ended up doing the carbs then decided to remove the engine to degrease engine and frame and pull apart engine to lap valves and check lifters and cam tensioner.
At the stage where I just degreased the engine and Thursday going to get the rear wheel back on the frame and roll it outside to degrease it.
After that, dive into the valves and check out the guts, flip over engine, check for shit in the oil pan/screen, and take it from there.
Don't want to rebuild but if necessary, I don't mind learning.
Anyways, here's some progress pictures till now. Don't know about you guys but I enjoy picture threads!
Will try and update weekly in case there is anyone interested. Feel free to ask questions, using a lot of techniques and stuff that I've learnt before and that I'm finding out from other CB owners. It's nice because if I ever have to do work on my 81 CB900C, I will know how no problem.
Already got a tank on the way, stock airbox, stock seat, center stand, highway bars, and a bunch of other crap too.
