I know there was a thread that some people had listed some companies that insure modified cars, but that was on the old board, can anyone name some of those companies?
Thanks
Dan

Why do you tell them is modified? Tell them it's stock and take pics of you parts and so on. If anything happens, than claim it by proof of pictures.
You'll be in the high risk category I think if you claim it before hand.

and if you crash and you didn<t disclose your modifications they will not cover you....

My rates are low enough already, they will go up a little bit, and thats fine. Many insurance companies won't insure a car if its modified, let alone if you tell them. If I end up wrapped around a telephone poll or the car is stolen, I refuse to be left pennyless when they say it no longer qualifies for their coverage becuase of unknown modifications I've done. The car is not an investment, you lose money as you go along, whats the point of paying insurance if when you need it, you get fucked. Its not worth hiding things from your insurance company.

Echelon I think insures modified cars if I'm not mistaking.

ya but say you injure someone and they can't work for the rest of their life and you get into a million dollar lawsuit, i'm convinced the insurance company will do everything they can to not cover you so you're better off not giving them any reason to not cover you unless you wanna pay out of your pocket....

Just out of curiosity...would coilovers and exhaust be enough mods for an insurance company to try and not pay out? Or are you guys talking more about engine mods?

They consider any change a mod, even rims are mods.

I use Economical Insurance Group. I've insured a few different modified cars with them (one was extremely modified, the VIN number & bits of the frame & body were the only stock parts to it, all they wanted for this was an apprasial to prove that it was worth x amount). They told me that they would insure the car as long as I told them what I'd done to it and had pictures of all the parts. I do pay a little more in insurance compared to others (I've also got a clean driving record), but I get no BS answers from my insurance and any claims that I've had took no more than 6 days to complete. On top of that my agent also drives a modified car.

I use Nodic through Easyway insurance. I have 1 tickit and one accident on my record (because they go back 6 years instead of 3) and my car is appraised at $20K. I pay $135/month. For me they were half the price of everyone else.

Yup, I'm also with economical. I informed them that the vehicle was modified when I initially insured it with them, gave them an appraisal that I had gotten done before requesting the insurance. The year after, they requested I go to one of their inspections, guy agreed with my original appraisal. So the car's appraised for about 5 times book value, and I'm only paying about $108 a month during the summer, with a clean record, and a couple bucks a month when the car is stored in the winter.

See that annoys me, I called them... and my rates were rape! My rates right now are not a problem at all, and I didn't tell them the car is modified for my quote because it isn't and they were still insane!

well, my intial year for them was higher. I had one minor speeding ticket on my record, 22 years old, modified car, they had yet to do an appraisal. It was about $230/mnth for the first year. Then second year rolls around, i pass into new age catagory (23-24), they do their appraisal, ticket drops off my record, and my payments dropped from $230 to $128. Then following year, this year, dropped to $108.

When your mods are worth a couple hundred, it's not an issue to insure them.
In hind sight, I'm glad I never mentioned anything, keeping my fingers crossed, I've drove accident free for years, and if I was paying the premiums to insure the mods I'd have wasted a ton of money. Now if anything happens, so be it, I've saved over the years not paying.
