K so I want to build my Sol into RWD! I need some insight! google doesnt show much. except a bunch of mid engine rwd setups.
I want a front engine rwd setup.
jdmmontreal's Rx7 rear assembly is looking pretty good.
I'd like to know how to safely secure the rear end to the car without having to worry about the metal/frame of my car ripping apart from beating on it.
being that my car is in pretty shitty shape as it is, it would probably be worth it more now than later. the car will be getting a roll cage welded in after anyways. and the car wont be road legal after im done. trailered to the track only..
anyone on here other than Phil know anyway to go about doing this?
I know Phil will just tell me I'm dumb anyways ahahaha

I personally think the mid engine is the easiest way to do it, yet fun to drive.
If you wanted a front engine , rear drive. I would start by:
What motor are you going to use ? , a Honda motor ? . I would probably skip the Honda motor and go with a rwd motor and transmission setup already. You have an ITR which you can sell for a descent amount, and go buy a 2.0 beams motor setup, or a 1.6 gutless silver top ( but fun with the itb's).
Then once you find the motor/transmission setup, find a drive shaft tunnel from a rwd car you can cut out and weld into your car, or make one, then cut and weld the RX7 rear end.

The tunnel in a delsol is extremely large and accepting for a driveshaft.
Im thinking Sr20 or something or S2k

If you do all the work yourself and do it for the fun of accomplishing something different, and you have the skills go for it. If you don't have the skills and experience then you could work overtime and save your dollars to pick up a used Elise. Mid engine 190hp, handles and brakes better out of the factory than any Del Sol ever will and you can pick them up for $30k ish. $30k sounds like a lot for a summer car but if you pay a shop to do a proper job of this sort of swap you'll probably be into it for at least $20k by the time you're all done. Just a thought.

I can do most the work myself no problem.. I just need to figure out how to fasten the subframes to the bottom of my car. say for example i copy the CRX build and use a S14 complete rear assembly. and as for the front end. I could probably save a lot of time and run a 240sx front subfram since i wont be able to use my stock subframe with steering rack, as they would be in the way.
so what to do i do? weld boxs to my frame, that will accept the bolts to the 240sx subframes? or somehow weld the subframes directly to my car?
