07-25-2011, 09:21 AM
I am located in the Kingston area and my shop is just north of Napanee.

Thanks for the compliments guys...

I will be building a new sanitary exhaust for the car this week! Hopefully tidy everything up enough that i can get the battery in it and verify my sensor conections (possibly hit the starter button)

once it runs i will be looking for some Chevy LS2 ignition coils and some custom plug wires....then off to the dyno for this years numbers!

i always wanted a miata track car, not bad if you can find one for about 5 grand (1990's).

Imported this one. purchase price in japan for this creature was $1150 cdn. Landed and registered brought it to ~4k.

Wow, great job, and great price for a nice toy.
Great projects, if you can physically fit into one.

obviously the car has seriously more invested into it now than 1,150$ ;)

good job!

obviously the car has seriously more invested into it now than 1,150$ ;)

I meant initial investment. Of course going through Turbo setups and blowing motors dramatically will increase the price, but at least you're not doing that to a $30,000+ car.

thats an awesome deal!

shlammed
07-26-2011, 12:27 PM
With more and more investments im getting closer to 30k.

Probably 2/3 that...

you can see my machines in the corner....
Mig- Miller DVi2
Tig- Lincon Precision 185

Nice, I've never used a dual voltage machine. But I have used a Lincoln 275 TIG and thought it was ok. Nice DC arc but far as AC, Ive been using inverters for a while now and will never go back. The difference is night and day between an inverter and transformer on AC.

I wish I had your floor space at my shop....

Also I have the other half of that intake manifold sitting at my house. LOL I started building one about a year ago and its sitting on a shelf, but I started at the plenum. If we put them together it would make a nice manifold.

07-27-2011, 09:54 AM
haha!

That is another one of my projects to start soon... but im going to save that for once the car is running and that i can do in my time off.

I am going to shorten the runners by another distance because when i cut it from my calculations i forgot the distance from the valve to the intake manifold flange.... ~1.5" to 2"

I would love an inverter machine at some point... but a great deal came up on this for me. My next machine will be a Miller Dystany 200 since i dont really weld anything any heavier than 1/4"

I dont mind the dynastys in fact the only machine I would trade my aerowave for is a 350 dynasty runner. Truth is I never though I would be able to buy a machine like I have now but it was the deal of a lifetime. 10k machine for 450 bucks, it was "broken" and I got it off the federal gov. But I plugged it in and its been working ever since. I think they just wanted a dynasty.

We had a 200 DX at my old work and while its a great little machine I would be surprised if it welded 1/4 aluminum well. I think they are like 150amps at 60% duty cycle or something. Check out chinese Inverters like everlast. made in china but hell all the parts in milllers are made in asia and assembled here. So either way everything is made in China.

it doesnt look like it, but i got a ton done today.

i refinished my valve cover since i only primered it before. In memory of my VW GTI, i painted it Candy White. I love that color.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i136/maattt/SAM_0918.jpg

Hacked the flange off of the OEM header to fit a 3" pipe. Surprisingly good construction for an OEM header.

General cabin shot when im wiring to the EMS
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i136/maattt/SAM_0914.jpg

Vinyl negatives and steel wook work great for logos!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i136/maattt/SAM_0911.jpg

Going forward, im still not happy with the wiring. I think that i would like to get some ECU plugs, an amphenol for the firewall and a summit racing chassis harness kit.
If anyone has any of those items, that would be great!

Parting this car out.

I will be selling my SiR as well once the big items go.

I will be buying a 350z.

needs moar torque?

shlammed
09-06-2011, 02:49 PM
Needs more everything.

I have been considering this for a long time now and i have decided that this is best. I am engaged and starting a new lifestyle and I dont need two cars that will take all of my time and money. This is coming from my brain, not hers.

Both of my cars will be replaced with a nice daily 350z.

I am redoing this project with a different goal: NO budget racecar. Once the car is built i will invest in items to keep it going and safe. Safety is the ONLY real concern here and as such the only real thing I will spend much money on is safety items. Speed is not a concern, reliability is a little... but not a huge concern...

I am looking for functional used parts. If you have anything you want to donate let me know.

Things like:

old brake rotors

brake calipers

steering wheels

sheet of decent plywood because racecar.

seats

engines

transmissions

turbos

springs

etc

Cheers,

Matt
