First of all we've changed all the spark plugs, the wires, the coils, alternater, belts at least 5 times now. (belts have literally exploded within 2 days of having brand new ones put on) Belts are always loosening and squealing.
The car does a little jerk, which almost feels like the engine stalled (it is automatic), then engine light starts flashing...as soon as the engine light starts flashing, when you hit the gas pedal the engine doesn't rev or accelerate. The car will continue to move if I have momentum, but it will not accelerate at all. Then the car starts shaking, and shakes uncontrolably when stopped. Quickly, we end up dying, and the car has to sit turned off for at least 10 to 15 minutes, before restart and actually having the gas work.
Looking for some opinions because the people at the garage are out of ideas!

You're not going to be able to get an internet diagnosis for that problem. It could be anything from electrical/computer issue to a mechanical issue like a failing fuel pump or even a Torque Converter problem. The belt problem may be entirely unrelated. The EEC light means your car needs to be scanned. Pull the trouble codes and go from there. Get that thing into Mazda.

sounds to me your ECU took a dump or wires to and from
95% of everything on that is electronically controlled..

Depends what it was read with, some cheap scan tools won't pick up on all the codes.
Honestly, i'd take the car to Mazda so they can work through the service manual diag procedures for that vehicle. The neighbourhood garage is not a great palce to take a car for electrical / computer issues. Some guys do know their shit but Mazda will know.

what's the point in changing parts when you haven't scanned the code.... get it scanned...
the cheap obd2 readers work well but they won't scan the transmission codes.... but who cares..... eventhough it's an auto, it's rare for transmission codes to come up unless the transmission was never serviced....
EGR's are a prob on the protoge for those years...
if in orleans.... i can scan it....

The belt part makes no sence to me, there not hard to install, and everything is in the open to see, so either something very obvious like a idler or tensioner pulley is damaged, and your not seeing it for some reason, or a pulley is bent or damaged in someway.
If belts are squeeling theres not enough tension on them, so my guess is your tensioner is no good, get someone mechanicly inclined to look at it, it should be very obvious.
Could be a bad connection to the coil (my truck died last week, coil wire rotted for example) but it could be any number of things, and if you cant see the simple stuff like a belt problem, then I doubt you have the skills to figure out the rest without spending a lot of cash guessing (nothing against you, but belts and pulleys are the most basic mechanical parts in the world)
A really nice honest garage is Wagorns on cyrville rd, talk to Barry, 749-4911
And what garage is it at now?

well first some jerk off mazda service adviser told me sister it was cause she didn't put "mazda spark plugs" in then i called and ask to talk to a tech and he figure out that it was the ignition wire...$160 later its running fine so thanks for everyones input...and yes it was a shitty universal scan tool we were using.

the belts were tightened three times and she wasn't sure why till she asked him if he was using lock tight(my dad told her about that)....
and sorry its not my car its my sisters she was taking it to some shitty gas station shop till finaly she got it to me. and i got it to mazda, why i asked for help on here was cause she only got it to me late x-mas eve so everything was closed for the next thre days and i wanted to be prepared when i went to mazda.
so once again thanks eveyone, hope everyone has a happy new year as well

sounds like a sticking egr, done lots, espcially being a maf vehicle it kills it, the last time I checked, the dealer had 52 in stock, that usually tells you something yeah?
