Who's your supplier for crate engines? I'd like to browse through what you can get me, or do you have access to all of the GM ones?
Any specials going on?
Thanks

I guess that's a little vague, eh?
I'm looking for something around the 300hp mark, In and around the GM 290hp and the ZZ4. Turn-key would be a plus, but I'm not sure if the price difference would justify it.
No dress-up, cast heads, no polish, no chrome, no etched alternator brakcet with the virgin mary on fire.

Well let me see what I can find for you sir, so 290-300hp longblock (block and heads, no intake) or do you want options for a complete turnkey drop in, carb to pan?
For a blazer Im guessing, or the grandprix?

Cutlass.
Before you rack your brain too much I'd like to see the price difference between the longblock and a turn-key (of roughly the same build). Obviously I have a manifold, Q-jet, HEI distributer, etc.. etc.. But it's all 80's smog shit, which sucks.
The more I think about it the more a turn-key seems like a better idea, whattaya think?

Here's a few options, and teasers :mullet:
12499529 350ci/290hp/326lbs/ft, longblock, 4bolt main,cast heads $2160.00
12486041 350 HO base, longblock with valve and timing cover $3015.00
12499711 350HO Turnkey 330hp/380lbs/ft, complete carb to pan $5300.00
24502609 ZZ4 350 base 355hp/405lbs/ft, $4570.00
12499101 HT383 435lbs/ft, 400+ torque from 2500-4000rpm $4900.00
17802134 LS364 (Carbed LS :mullet:  ) 440hp/404lbs/ft $6124.00
Pay close attention on the gm site for what componants come with what engine, or just ask and I'll find out.
Some come as bare longblocks, some come with everthing but carb and starter.
2 year warranties, all could be here monday morning, no freight costs.
Do it!

Thanks Mike, I'm leaning towards a turn key ZZ4... It's a shame, but you can't seem to get a turn-key 290hp.
My other option is to get one built, but like anything that has its disadvantages. I'll be making a decision in the next week or two so if I go for a crate I'll be in touch. Project Cutlass will see the light of day in '08 so you'll be seeing lots of me ;)
Andre, what about a short block from Mike and top it off with an aftermarket MPI system? Or, for cheap yet reliable you could run a throttle body injection system on a carb dual plane intake with a stock system off of say a mid 90's Silverado - some of them had TBI 350's, just two barrel's but for cruising I bet they'd be alright.
Jim
p.s.: I used to have an old's 307 and I am not a fan of the Q-jet, though when dialed in they have the ability to run nice and smooth. I don't know about that new fangled vacuum secondary stuff though.

You cant build a MPI smallblock for what you can buy them for, Ramjet 350 is around $6100.00 off the top of my head, Only thing you need to do is hook up 12v for the fuel pump, Ignition, and hook up a fuel line, comes with everything, standalone computer, even the sparkplugs are in the heads. very responsive engine, and unique looking with the intake.
I had a customer pick one up on a sat morning, was running on sunday.
You looking to build a nice cruiser andre?

I'll stick with carb'd I think. One of the goals of this project is to keep costs down, no better way than with a small Holley.
Yeah, I want to build a driver Mike. My plans are pretty minimalist; New motor, exhaust (the old one is a hack-together job), and airbags. I think the 2004R should hold up OK, and I don't really mind the long gearing in the rear end for now, I'm not building a drag car.. More of a highway cruiser. I like the idea of a crate engine for reliablity and simplicity, but obviously it's a bit more $$. If I go that route it'll be a ZZ4, seems like such a popular option it's hard to go wrong.
