First off, I hate this car. If someone wants to buy it, feel free to make me an offer. 93 TSi AWD auto 267k. This is my winter beater and is costing me way too much in gas and maintenance.

Ok, Ive been doing alot of research on the topic of the charging systems in the car...and apparently they blow.

I had an alternator problem about a year ago, replaced both the alternator and battery in Jan 07....then in December 07, my battery dies and I replaced it for free from crappy tire.

Now, Im driving along and my alternator (looks like the uOttawa logo), battery, and ebrake light all light up like when my alternator died on me last time...except the car kept running. So I get it home real quick and hook up my volt meter.

11.8 on idle with the lights on. Not good.

Now, I've checked the fuses, they're good. I checked the fusible link, it looks fine. The battery terminals are nice and clean. The belt is slightly loose and I'll replace it tommororw. According to the Chiltons Manual, my B+ terminal was missing the plastic cap (the one with the 8/10mm nut on it) and its kinda rusted, so I'm gonna clean that up tommororw too.

What else should I look for?

how's the condition of your battery...how old is it
where did you get your alternator...is it a rebuild.
if battery and alternator are ok then maybe a short somewhere...
how's the rust on the car...it's getting pretty old.

might also be bad wiring...I konw I had that issue with my old truck. Replaced the wiring to the starter and it was fixed...

so narrow down where the issue is comming from. Sounds like alternator.

Wiring is fine, not rusted, all still intact.

Body only has one spot of rust on drivers fender, clean everywhere else.

Underbody is mint given its age and the fact I drove it 2 winters

Replaced the alternator under warranty from CAPS and the the lights are gone, everything is AOK.... I read that these cars kill alternators for some reason if they are reman'd so I guess thats the problem.

Somene buy this car so I can get another 240 that doesnt need 91/94 thanks!

crank walk for sure, yep.. crank walk.

also, that particular year (93) was prone to capacitor melting in the ECU, which causes electrical problems. if your alternator is not the issue, you may want to check it out.

This one is easy:

The original alternators that came on these cars have a heavy duty voltage regulator that the aftermarket alternator rebuild shops can't get.

You need to get a used original mitsubishi alternator or a new dealer one.

I had the same exact problem with my old 1990 Talon ESI.
I changed the alternator 3 times for rebuilt units. I found a good shop for rebuilding them and they put in a new voltage regulator and it has worked perfectly for many years now. My sister has the car. btw they charged something like 45$ to change the regulator and that's all that was needed.
