Does anyone know where I can pick one of these up.

I need a 12 point 1/2" deep socket.

I looked at Crappy Tire and they had nothing...

Thanks. Looks like Sears might have one.

I would have gone with Snap-on, but I didn't want to re-mortgage my house. :D

funny that this post was made cause i just finished looking for that exact thing.

Princess auto has tons of 12 socket size with 1/2 drives. Mostly sold as individual sockets though.

Best place and price seems to be Sears/craftsman

Picked mine up at lunch for 6 bucks.

Only 3/8 drive though, but i have the adapter.

Not to hijack the thread, but why do 12 point sockets exist? 6 points just seem so much stronger in terms of not stripping the head off the bolt.

i found it was the oposite.

I think 6 points are stronger because they engage a larger surface area of the bolt head. 12 points tend to grab mostly the corners of the head, which increases chance of rounging-off. 6 points grab the flat sides of the head, as there are 6 fewer gaps in the grasp. That's my hypothesis anyway (not to be a nerd). Check it:

your picture also answers your question..... 12 pt is also good for square nuts and bolts...

arp bolts and studs

This is why I needed mine.

The 12pt socket with a 12pt nut actually gives more torque potential since it has more engagement surface area further from the centre of the nut. Think about applying torque... Whatever you do don't use the cheap princess auto 1/2" on ARPs. I've known a few people who have stripped them because the PA pieces. I've always used my craftsman 12pt's and have had no problems even with 1/2" studs.

You got'z it. I never use a 12-point when I could use a 6.

If you're gonna get a 12-pt, get a good quality socket. 12pt tools have a tendancy to wear off their points faster.

Go with something that has a lifetime warranty - like Snap-On, Mac, Sears or Mastercraft. That way, when the tool wears out or cracks up the side (as so many 12pt sockets do) you get a new one and don't have to pay for it twice. ;)

fuck i need to get my hands on a few 12 point sockets for my clutch and flywheel i gotta take off tonight. but i dont wanna buy the set just to use it once fuck.

Edit:

Did you say princess auto sells the sockets individually? all i need is a 10mm and a 17mm 12 point sockets.tyrying to find the cheapest lowest price possible as i only need to use these one time.

Cool Andre is on my side :)

B18c check Canadian Tire, I think you can buy impact sockets 1 at a time too. Failing that, I know I have a 12 point 10mm you can borrow, I'll check if I have a 17

Last time I checked, the only way you can get a 12 point socket from CT is in their big mechanic sets.

sears has them for under 6 bucks each....

I don't mind buying tools. Think of them more as an investment. After all how much would it cost you to pay someone else to do it. But then again, in some cases you end up fucking something up and it costs more to have a professional unfuck it for you.

Anywho, Sears should have all the individual sockets you need.
