Hey,
I was just curious. If I swap a B18C motor into my 93 teg, would it be alright if I used my stock B18B tranny?
Would I notice a lag in performance? Or would I just be putting too much stress on my tranny?
Would it make a difference if I swapped in a B16A2 motor instead?
You could do it no prob. It wouldn't stress your tranny, the gear ratios are just different. I think you will have longer gears with the B18B tranny, and probably rev a little lower at highway speeds.

better fuel milage
worst performance
the b18b has longer gears
and the "vtec" trannies are shorter
sooo.. that means that if you're shifting your gears going to the next, you will "fall out" of vtec point when you shift to the next with your B18B tranny even ifyou redline them.
get the gsr or sir tranny, you'll be disapointed.
Unless you tune your ECU to work with the longer geared tranny...... but you could very well lose power with a lower vtec point, even if it's tuned as well as can be done.

Just dont shift like a girl and you wont fall out of vtec lol

Not really true - The vtec engagement is based on speed for 1st gear so it doesn't engage on the stock tune otherwise above (I think 25kph or so) it will just kick in based on where the throttle and RPM are. I typically remove this limit because spinning tires is more fun in 1st. The tranny has nothing to do with the power output but I would agree with those who say the long gears would suck. The type-R or GSR trannies are good on that. The SIR is a little short and hurts fuel economy. SIR with the LS final drive is also a nice one for a little shorter gears.

Well my buddy had his B16 with a ls tranny, and it was ok but he was out of vtec after changing gears. After he got it chipped/tuned, with a lower vtec point, it was a lot better to drive. How is the 92-93 gsr tranny for shorter/longer gears, and final drive?
