Default Tuned S4 vs RS4 - Chris Harris on Cars

Who would have guessed that a simple computer modification could make an Audi S4 nearly as fast as the Audi RS4?

Yeah, many manufacturers 'de-tune' their cars to ensure enough of a power gap for their premium model sports cars. Audi, BMW, Merc... they all do it.

Although really an S4 isn't exactly a 'lower end' model...

Maybe it comes with a Warranty? Dinan charges similar for BMW, but it honors the BMW warranty which is nice.

still. take into consideration adding a turbocharger, fuel system, exhaust, all the turbo parts and a tune to add an extra 100hp to a naturally aspirated car and severely hamper it's reliability. In that case 2500 for a tune doesn't sound too bad to me. You can go back to stock with a flip of a switch as well.

I kinda get where youre coming from but thats still insane. Seeing as you need to do none of those mods to this car the tune isnt worth 2500. Look at how much work isnt put into doing it. Plug in "beep beep" unplug. Its essentially rape in car tuning land.

ya i know. I was just making a comparison of a non-fi car being modded to put out the same power that this tune provides. the cost would be the same if not more.

ya. i guess it's the development costs vs tunes sold. I know in the porsche world there are tunes that uncork all kinds of power that are $$$$$

that or they're just gouging rich people.

Theyre obviously just gouging. Cobb access port are around 800 i think. That would be more reasonable. Its not even a specific tune either. Im sure if it was really tuned they couldve seen even better numbers from it.

Says the guy who likely couldn't format a proper table in Microsoft Word.

I don't think it matters what you feel is reasonable. Safe to say you're the furthest thing away from their target market.
